The Job

Eckert & Ziegler Isotope Products seeks an Associate Health Physicist to join our team. The Associate Health Physicist reports to Supervising Health Physicist, who provides administrative and technical guidance. The Associate Health Physicist is responsible for hands-on and daily support of the laboratory chemists and for specifically assigned aspects of the radiological safety program. Performs routine surveillance procedures to ensure manufacturing work is conducted in compliance with all applicable laws, regulations and policies. Recognize, evaluate and control ionizing radiation exposure to employees, visitors and the general public. Provides support for non-radiological safety programs. Assists and guides Health Physics Technicians.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

    Conduct all assigned tasks in compliance with applicable federal and state regulations and Company policies and proceduresEnsure compliance of company work practices and policies with applicable federal and state laws and regulationsProvide radiological surveillance support for production activities covered by Special Radiological Work Permits (SRWPs)Work and communicate with regulatory agencies and inspectorsCollect, prepare, package and assay radioactive waste for disposalProvide assistance with analyzing waste samples and coordinating waste disposal shipmentsEvaluate internal and external radiation doses received by employees, visitors or members of the publicVentilation system filtration maintenance. Glove box filtration maintenance.Conduct radiological assessment of laboratory operations, making recommendations for improvement and reduction in radiation doseProvide assistance with non-radiological waste programsProvide assistance with OSHA related safety elementsRepair, maintain and calibrate survey instruments as requiredConduct and maintain inventory and leak test of sealed sources Maintain/Review Health Physics recordsOther duties as assigned

Requirements:

    Minimum education (or substitute experience) required: BS degree in Health Physics (or related field) with radiological laboratory experience; Masters degree in Health Physics or related subject preferred.
    Minimum experience required: 1-2 years of experience in Health Physics-related activities, general laboratory safety, or advanced degree in related fields.
    Abilities and skills required:
    • Must be able to travel and work in Valencia and Burbank.
    • Strong oral and written communication skills
    • Use of Geiger, ion chamber, or other radiation control instruments and metersAnalysis of radioactive samples using ion chamber and liquid scintillation equipmentConduct radiation safety surveys and other routine tasks.Perform radiation dose and effluent calculations, and analyses.Able to lift up to 50 lbs.Proficiency in standard office software; word processing, spreadsheets, etc. HAZWOPER, CPR & First Aid and Certified Shipper a plus
