About The Role

As a Parts Counterperson in our Parts Department, you will play a key role in supporting both our service technicians and retail customers by sourcing, identifying, and supplying the correct automobile parts and accessories—primarily for Toyota vehicles. This hourly, full-time position is ideal for someone who understands dealership service and parts operations and is comfortable working with electronic ordering and shipping systems. You will be part of a collaborative team environment, ensuring accurate inventory control, timely order processing, and excellent customer service. In addition to an hourly base rate, you will have the opportunity to earn commission based on sales performance.

What You'll Do

  • Assist technicians, service advisors, and retail customers in identifying and sourcing the correct parts and accessories, with a focus on Toyota parts.
  • Use electronic ordering and shipping systems to process parts orders, returns, special orders, and inter-store transfers accurately and efficiently.
  • Operate the dealership’s DMS (preferably Dealertrack) to look up parts, create invoices, update customer and vehicle records, and track orders.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked parts counter and storage area, ensuring all items are properly labeled and easy to locate.
  • Monitor inventory levels and help manage stock, including receiving shipments, verifying quantities, and reporting discrepancies or damage.
  • Support the Service Department by promptly fulfilling internal parts requests to minimize vehicle repair cycle time.
  • Provide professional, sales-focused customer service at the counter and over the phone, including suggestive selling and upselling appropriate add-on items.
  • Manage shipping and receiving activities, including preparing outgoing shipments, coordinating with carriers, and updating order status in the system.
  • Follow dealership and manufacturer guidelines for parts returns, warranties, cores, and special-order policies.
  • Collaborate with Parts Department leadership to achieve sales goals and take advantage of commission opportunities tied to parts sales.
  • Adhere to all safety, cleanliness, and compliance standards within the Parts Department and dealership.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support overall Parts and Service Department operations.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience working in an automotive parts, dealership, or similar parts counter environment.
  • Knowledge of automobile parts, with strong preference for experience specifically with Toyota parts.
  • Sales experience, ideally in an automotive dealership or retail parts setting, with a focus on customer service and relationship building.
  • Hands-on experience with electronic ordering and shipping systems for parts management.
  • Familiarity with dealership service and parts operations, including internal, warranty, and retail parts processes.
  • Experience using a dealership management system (DMS); Dealertrack experience is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to accurately look up parts by VIN, model, and other identifiers using electronic catalogs and manufacturer resources.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy when entering orders, checking inventory, and handling cash or electronic payments.
  • Effective verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to explain parts options and pricing clearly to customers and internal staff.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including the ability to learn new software systems and navigate multiple screens quickly.
  • Ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced dealership environment, managing multiple requests and priorities.
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods and to lift, move, and stock parts and packages as required by the role.

The pay range for this role is:
17 - 22 USD per hour(Toyota of Wallingford)
