Job Description
The Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF) is the democratically elected National Government of the Red River Métis, also known as the Manitoba Métis. The Red River Métis are a distinct Indigenous Nation and People, and Canada's Negotiating Partners in Confederation and the Founders of the Province of Manitoba.
The MMF seeks to fill one full-time Research Assistant position within our Rights Research Department located at 200 Main Street in Winnipeg, MB. The Research Assistant is responsible for helping the MMF access, appraise and collect digital and hardcopy documents from various archives for a variety of Metis rights-related projects.
Job Duties/Competencies:
- Examine, appraise, transcribe, collate and collect digital and hardcopy materials online or at various archival repositories;
- Transcribing and verifying transcriptions of archival and/or digital documents and organizing digital and physical collections;
- Provide cost-analysis and comparative financial information on policy and program services;
- Complete a description of collected materials and present results to the Director of Rights Research;
- Implement and monitor a consistent procedure for office administration, records, tracking invoices and expenditures, and reporting management;
- Attend meetings and assist in presenting research findings;
- Prepare proposals based on extensive research and analysis;
- Prepare communications materials, briefings, backgrounders, etc.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in History, Geography, Library & Information Science, Project Management or Archival Studies; equivalent experience and training may be considered;
- Experience preparing reports and writing research papers;
- Experience implementing procedures and following basic research methods & procedures with an attention to detail;
- Experience in research project coordination, project management & ethics procedures;
- Strong communication, organizational, interpersonal and time management skills;
- Experience working with boards and/or committees is preferred;
- Experience working for a not-for-profit organization and Indigenous community is an asset;
- Knowledge of Red River Métis culture, and MMF programs and services is a definite asset; and,
- Ability to travel, valid Manitoba Driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle.
