Job Description
The Vice President of Retail Operations is expected to establish, monitor, and achieve measurable performance objectives that support the financial strength, operational excellence, sustainable growth, and mission of Goodwill Industries of South Mississippi. Performance expectations will be reviewed regularly with the Chief Operating Officer and may be adjusted annually based on organizational priorities, budget objectives, and strategic initiatives.
Specific Duties:
- Manage retail operations, ensuring and maximizing profitability. Develop and implement strategies to respond to results that are below expectations.
- Draft, review, and negotiate major, complex, and/or nonstandard contracts with public and private sector customers.
- Provide guidance and direction to the team in the planning and developing of short and long-term goals.
- Supervise Director and Regional Managers who are responsible for achieving budgeted revenue and expense goals.
- Develop and implement plans with the Director to improve production, merchandising and display of products to meet sales and cost objectives.
- Conduct reviews of monthly financial performance and develop plans for improvement.
- Ensure compliance with agency policies, procedures and safety standards throughout areas supervised and maintains same to meet CARF, Department of Labor and other regulatory standards.
- Ensure that all employment decisions, agency programs and personnel actions are administered in conformance with policies and procedures.
- Oversee/Partners with transportation and warehouse operations to ensure the overall needs are being met.
- Work collaboratively with the Executive team on developing strategies for the expansion of operations in assigned Goodwill territory. Responsible for the success of all new stores and openings.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual operating reports to meet the varying needs of the organization and provide additional statistical or analytical data as requested.
- Manage the department’s purchasing activities to ensure the competitiveness of vendors and the accuracy of inventory.
- Keep up to date on information and technology affecting functional areas to increase innovation and ensure compliance.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Operating Officer.

Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience, Skills):
- Minimum of five years of experience in a senior role in partnering with executive staff.
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, logistics, or related field required. An MBA is preferred. Experience may be substituted for education in some areas.
- A minimum of five years of experience in thrift retail, manufacturing, or retail sales.
- Demonstrated ability to recognize, assess and resolve operational issues.
- Ability to create, implement and execute operational plans.
- Possess strong ethical standards, honesty, and integrity.
- Proven ability to develop staff through effective communication.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex issues.
