Lead Medical Assistant – Pain Management

Laredo, TX

Full-Time | Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Epic Pain Management is seeking an experienced and dependable Lead Medical Assistant to join our Laredo clinical team. This position is ideal for an experienced Medical Assistant who has a strong background in pain management and previous leadership, team lead, or supervisory experience.

The Lead Medical Assistant will provide direct clinical support while also helping oversee daily clinical workflows, support Medical Assistant staff, maintain accountability and efficiency, and ensure the clinic consistently meets Epic Pain Management's standards for patient care and operations.

About the Role

The Lead Medical Assistant supports the day-to-day clinical operations of the Laredo location while performing the responsibilities of an experienced Medical Assistant. This position serves as a resource for the clinical team, assists with workflow coordination, supports provider needs, and helps ensure clinical responsibilities are completed accurately and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Clinical Operations

  • Provide day-to-day guidance and support to Medical Assistant staff
  • Help coordinate clinical workflow, patient flow, and daily assignments
  • Serve as a resource for Medical Assistants regarding clinical procedures, workflows, and expectations
  • Assist with training and onboarding new Medical Assistants
  • Identify workflow, performance, or operational concerns and communicate them appropriately to management
  • Promote professionalism, teamwork, accountability, and high standards of patient care
  • Ensure clinical areas are properly maintained, stocked, and prepared for daily operations

Clinical Support

  • Room and triage patients and accurately document vital signs, medical histories, pain assessments, medications, allergies, and chief complaints
  • Prepare patients, exam rooms, and equipment for examinations and procedures
  • Assist providers with pain management procedures, injections, and other in-office treatments
  • Administer IM injections and perform other approved clinical procedures within scope and certification
  • Perform EKGs, point-of-care testing, and other diagnostic workflows as required
  • Support providers throughout the clinical day and help address workflow needs as they arise

Patient Care & Communication

  • Provide patients with clear instructions regarding procedures, treatment plans, medications, and follow-up care
  • Coordinate referrals, imaging orders, and follow-up appointments as needed
  • Maintain professional and compassionate communication with patients, providers, and team members
  • Help resolve patient-flow concerns and ensure a positive patient experience

Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the EMR
  • Ensure clinical documentation, orders, and patient updates are completed appropriately
  • Follow infection-control, OSHA, safety, and company policies and procedures
  • Assist in maintaining appropriate inventory levels for medications and clinical supplies
Requirements:

Qualifications

  • Certified or Registered Medical Assistant required
  • Pain management experience required
  • Previous Medical Assistant lead, team lead, supervisory, or other healthcare leadership experience required
  • Strong knowledge of pain management clinical workflows and procedures
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish highly preferred
  • Experience assisting with pain management injections and in-office procedures preferred
  • Proficient with EMR systems and clinical documentation
  • Skilled with IM injections; IV insertion skills and IV certification are a plus
  • Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to provide direction while maintaining a professional and collaborative team environment
  • Dependable, accountable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced clinical setting
