Position Summary

Under the direction of the CEO/HS Director:

Provides operational and administrative leadership for the Head Start program in the centers. Implements and ensures quality services to children and families in accordance with Head Start Performance Standards. Observes and advises staff on all activities affecting and involving children.

Oversees center budget, inventory and use of equipment and other materials. Ensures facilities are safe, organized, and maintained within budgets to support maintenance expenses and ongoing upkeep for each facility. Coordinates and supervises contracted or in-house facility repair work with facility and maintenance specialist.

Develops and oversees social service activities, makes contact with community resources and partners, and ensures quality service to families. Works closely with parents, staff and community to implement Head Start and other program objectives and activities.

Supervises ongoing audits of all safety protocols, including Supervision of Head Start Children, Appropriate and Safe Release of Children, and protocols as defined in the transportation manual.

Key Areas of Responsibility
  • Manages all operating aspects of the centers in accordance with Centro policies and procedures, the Head Start Act, Head Start Performance Standards, applicable state and local law, and best practices in childcare. Provides guidance to center personnel as needed.
  • Provides oversight, training, mentoring, and technical expertise to center personnel to create a cohesive team focused on providing quality services to children and families, including performance feedback.
  • Conducts site visits as needed to perform observations, provide ongoing monitoring, conduct file reviews, and provide reports/recommendations to the Head Start Director.
  • Observes, conducts, and analyzes ongoing monitoring efforts in the center on a regular basis to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Collaborates with community partners, parents, families and all component area managers to provide quality health, nutrition, safety and transportation services to children and families.
  • Works with the Health and Nutrition Manager to ensure children receive nutritious, culturally appropriate food and to meet CACFP requirements and to ensure all staff have appropriate health and nutrition-related certifications such as CPR, First Aid and Food Handler permits.
  • Ensures food and supplies purchasing is consistent and cost effective across the agency.
  • Works with Office Manager and Human Resource Specialists to maintain accurate personnel records, interviews, staffing levels, and to conduct personnel actions in accordance with Centro policy and local, state and federal law.
  • Actively works in the community to identify potential resources or partnerships to benefit Centro and the families.
  • Develops and effectively monitors and manages the budget for the center in conjunction with the Finance Director, including a budget to ensure facilities are maintained and safe for children, families, and staff.
  • Ensures facilities are in compliance with state regulation, fire marshal, health departments, and city ordinances.
  • Provides assistance in preparing grant applications as assigned, including community assessments, self-assessments, parent surveys, or other data.
  • Provides regular reports to Centro’s administrative office as required.
  • Required to be onsite in Greeley, CO or the Alamosa, CO area and willing to travel to both locations.
Qualifications

Preferred bachelor’s degree or higher in Early Childhood Education/Child Development or related field, with emphasis or experience in special education, social work, or psychology.

Three years management and/or group process experience.

Bilingual English-Spanish preferred.

Physical requirements include extended periods of time sitting or standing, ability to lift 50 lbs., ability to stoop, bend, crawl and perform other actions commonly associated with caring for young children and infants.
