The Float Pool Registered Nurse (RN) provides flexible, patient-centered nursing care across multiple clinical areas, including Urgent Care, Medical/Surgical, Swing Bed, Same Day Surgery and Discharge Lounge, as assigned. This role supports safe staffing, efficient patient throughput, and continuity of care by responding to fluctuating patient care needs while maintaining compliance with regulatory standards and organizational policies.
Primary Responsibilities:- Direct Patient Care
- Provide safe, competent nursing care within scope of licensure across assigned departments
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments and ongoing reassessments
- Administer medications and treatments in accordance with provider orders and hospital policy
- Deliver care in:
- Urgent Care and/or Emergency Department (within competency level)
- Patient intake and stabilization (within skill set)
- Monitoring and reassessment of patients
- Coordination with UC/ED team during high census or surge
- Medical/Surgical and Swing Bed units
- Acute and post-acute patients
- Swing Bed patients requiring skilled nursing services
- Ongoing patient needs and progress
- Perioperative areas (pre/post-operative support as applicable)
- Pre-operative preparation
- Post-anesthesia recovery (within competency validation)
- Discharge Lounge support as applicable
- Completing Discharge Teaching
- Discharge Lounge Support Staff
- Urgent Care and/or Emergency Department (within competency level)
- Adapt to varying workflows, patient populations, and acuity levels
- Assist with:
- Patient admissions and transfers
- Discharge processes and patient education
- Bed turnover and readiness
- Collaborate to improve:
- Patient flow
- Length of stay
- Discharge efficiency
- Complete all required documentation accurately and timely in the EMR
- Adhere to:
- CMS Conditions of Participation
- Swing Bed documentation requirements (when applicable)
- Hospital policies and procedures
- Communicate effectively with:
- Providers
- Nursing staff
- Interdisciplinary team members
- Utilize standardized handoff communication (SBAR)
- Maintain patient safety as a top priority in all assignments
- Follow infection prevention and safety protocols
- Escalate concerns through appropriate chain of command
- Functions within RN scope of practice
- Accepts assignments based on validated competencies
- Declines assignments that fall outside of competency, with appropriate escalation

- Collaborates with: All clinical departments
- Hold a current Minnesota nursing license.
- Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) (American Heart Association) ,ACLS or ability to complete ACLS within six months of hire, PALS or ability to complete PALS within six months of hire.Registered nurses caring for trauma admissions to the medical/surgical floor are required to complete a trauma training course within six weeks of hire and complete a TNCCcourse within eighteen months of hire.
- Two years experience as an RN preferred.
- Previous experience in:
- Urgent and or Emergency Department
- Medical/Surgical nursing
- Pre/post Operative Surgical nursing
- Experience with multi-unit or float roles
- Patient assessment and clinical decision-making
- Medication administration and IV therapy
- Emergency response skills
- Adaptability to multiple care settings
- Understanding of patient flow and throughput
- Knowledge of:
- CMS Conditions of Participation
- DNV Regulatory Guidelines
- Swing Bed requirements (preferred)
- Effective communication
- Team collaboration
- Critical thinking and prioritization
- Ability to lift, transfer, and reposition patients
- Prolonged standing and walking
- Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations
River's Edge Hospital is hiring Float Pool RNs to work throughout the facility.
The typical shifts/hours available are as follows:
0.75 FTE (60 hours per two weeks), day shift: 7am-7:30pm
0.9 FTE (72 hours per two weeks), day shift: 7am-7:30pm
*Possible exceptions to start/end times based on staffing needs, patient volume, and operational demands.
0.9 RN (72 hours per two weeks), night shift: 7pm-7:30am
