Job Description

The Coats Company is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer / Designer II to support our R&D team in the design, development, and validation of electrical systems used in our automotive service equipment. This role is heavily focused on electronics design, PCB development, and component-level engineering, with direct involvement in testing and production support.

You will play a key role in creating and maintaining detailed electrical documentation, supporting new product development, and ensuring the long-term reliability of electrical components from concept through post-production.

Responsibilities:

  • Ability to work in a cross-functional team with internal and external partners to help manage electrical design projects from conceptual design to production implementation.
  • Designs, develops, and documents printed circuit board design and assembly in collaboration with internal and external partners.
  • Lead component investigations for alternate designs to support ongoing production.
  • Own obsolescence investigations for all electrical parts and components
  • Lead electronic component and board level testing through development and into postproduction launch to identify issues and root causes.
  • Support advanced design tools including but not limited to DFMEAs, PFMEAs and Control Plans
  • Support top level product testing and development where and when necessary.
  • Implement best practices in electrical component and board design.
Qualifications:
  • Four-year Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited university in electronics or electrical engineering / technology or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years of schematic layout / PCB design experience required.
  • Experience with Altium as it relates to design and layout of electrical schematics and PCB design and manufacture.
  • Experience with soldering and through hole placement.
  • Experience with board level testing, component testing and selection, and overall qualification testing
  • Experience with generating DFMEA & PFMEA documentation
  • PC skills including Microsoft Office applications required.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Altium advanced features including but not limited to circuit design, BOM layouts, and parts libraries.
  • Experience with designing and building board level test devices and performing Gage R&Rs
  • Experience using electrical testing and measurement devices.
  • Experience with advanced circuit simulation tools.
