Job Description

Our VP of Accounting oversees the credit union’s Accounting department and daily operations, providing strategic direction and aligning the department vision with the overall vision of the credit union. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience: 5-8 years of similar or related experience; some of which include management roles, ideally within a financial institution. Experience in budget forecasting and expenditure management.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Interpersonal Skills: A high level of trust, credibility and diplomacy is critical. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Capable of working with and presenting to senior executives. Oversee departmental processes and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Extensive knowledge of Accounting department operations including, general ledger and closing for end of day and month-end, accounts payable/receivable, and industry protocols and standards. Proven ability to think strategically and align Accounting initiatives with credit union strategic goals. Demonstrates excellent analytical, organizational and communication skills, with a proven ability to navigate complex Accounting challenges while balancing both high-level and detailed perspectives. Possesses strong knowledge of GAAP and in-depth knowledge of Accounting rules, standards, and reporting requirements, applying this knowledge to specific financial situations, transactions, and organizational needs.
  • Leadership: Exceptional leadership and people management skills with the ability to inspire and motivate a team. Proven experience leading and directing Accounting team to meet objectives and deadlines.

JOB SUMMARY:

  • Accounting Operations: Lead all Accounting operations including, general ledger, closing for end of day and month-end, accounts payable/receivable, financial reporting and tax compliance, etc. Ensure data accuracy, process discipline, and cross-functional alignment.
  • Financial Management and Reporting: Balance corporate account and clear outstanding items. Responsible for preparation of requested items for annual audit and both internal and external auditors as necessary for the completion of exams and audits. Prepare year-end Tax Withholding report for IRS; Process and submits IRS corrections. Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and yearly reports.
  • Budget Management: Assist the Chief Accounting Officer with forecasting, developing, and administering the Accounting department’s annual budget. Help monitor performance against budget and provide variance analysis. Maximize resource utilization to offer cost-effective and efficient solutions.
  • Policy and Compliance: Develop, implement, and maintain Accounting policies and procedures. Ensure compliance with regulations and standards and strict adherence to GAAP.
  • Leadership: Supports and Assists the Chief Accounting Officer in setting the direction of the Accounting team in a manner that focuses on creating a motivated, well-trained and cohesive team that effectively achieves department initiatives and goals.
  • Communication: Reports directly to the credit union Chief Accounting Officer. Works closely with the executive team to provide innovative solutions that support credit union’s objectives.
