Pinto Valley is an open-pit copper mine located at the west end of the historic Globe-Miami mining district of central Arizona, approximately 80 miles east of Phoenix. Pinto Valley has been in operation since 1972 and has produced more than four billion pounds of copper. Acquired by Capstone from BHP in 2013, the mine is fully permitted through 2039 and a study is underway to potentially extend the mine life through 2050.

Primary Responsibilities:
Include washing and steam cleaning equipment in preparation for preventive maintenance, inspections, and backlog repairs. The technician is also responsible for maintaining housekeeping standards throughout Fleet Maintenance facilities, including sweeping and cleaning shop bays, disposing of garbage, organizing work areas, and ensuring tools, equipment, and materials are properly stored.
Mine Maintenance Technician 2 will also assist experienced mechanics with basic, non-technical maintenance activities. As skills and experience develop, responsibilities may include basic electrical work, preventive maintenance tasks, component removal and installation assistance, inspections, lubrication activities, and other maintenance support duties within the technician's demonstrated level of competency.
This is a developmental position designed to provide employees with hands-on experience and the technical knowledge necessary to progress within the Fleet Maintenance technician program. Mine Maintenance Technician 2 will work under the direction and guidance of experienced technicians, mechanics, leads, and supervisors while developing competency in mine mobile maintenance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Wash, pressure wash, and steam clean mobile equipment before preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs.
- Maintain high housekeeping standards throughout Fleet Maintenance shops and work areas.
- Sweep and clean shop bays, dispose of garbage and waste, and maintain organized work areas.
- Assist mechanics and senior technicians with basic and non-technical maintenance tasks.
- Perform basic preventive maintenance activities within demonstrated competency.
- Assist with basic electrical troubleshooting and repairs under appropriate supervision.
- Support equipment inspections and identification of visible defects or maintenance concerns.
- Properly use and care for tools, equipment, and Fleet Maintenance resources.
- Follow established maintenance procedures, work instructions, and supervisor direction.
- Maintain accurate communication regarding assigned work and identified equipment concerns.
- Participate in training and hands-on development to build mechanical and technical skills.
- Demonstrate continuous progression toward the next level of the Fleet Maintenance technician program.

The Mine Maintenance Technician 2 is expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to Safety, Excellence, Accountability, and Caring in all assigned work. Employees must follow established safety procedures, use required PPE, maintain good housekeeping practices, and immediately communicate unsafe conditions or equipment concerns.
The technician is expected to take ownership of assigned tasks, maintain a clean and professional work environment, and actively develop the skills required to become a more technically proficient Fleet Maintenance technician.
Successful performance in this position will be demonstrated through safe work practices, dependable attendance, quality workmanship, effective housekeeping, willingness to learn, and continued development of maintenance skills and technical competency.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Required
- High school diploma or GED.
- Ability to speak, comprehend, read, and write English.
- Ability to safely follow written and verbal instructions, policies, and procedures.
- Commitment to safe work practices and maintaining a safe work environment.
Preferred
- 1-2 years in the mining industry
- CDL with Hazmat endorsement.
- Familiarity with mine mobile equipment.
- Previous experience in mining, heavy equipment maintenance, automotive, or industrial maintenance.
WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Work in a combination of shop and field environments.
- Work around mine mobile equipment, tools, and maintenance activities.
- Sit or stand for up to one hour at a time.
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Work in varied weather and environmental conditions typical of an active mine site.
- Follow required personal protective equipment (PPE) and site safety requirements.
All candidates will be required to complete a pre-employment medical exam, drug and alcohol test, and background check. All positions require a pre-placement physical examination to ensure candidates are 'fit for duty’. Additional training and/or testing may be required. Capstone maintains a drug and alcohol-free workplace.
