Reports To: Director of Golf

Classification: Hourly | Full-time, Part-time

Established in 2023, The Gate Golf Club is a non-profit organization dedicated to expanding access to golf and creating a lasting impact on the Southwest Florida community. Scheduled to open in late 2026, The Gate will feature:

  • 175-seat freestanding full-service restaurant
  • The Pavilion Bar
  • The Gimme - quick service restaurant
  • The Bays - 30-bay state-of-the-art practice range with Trackman technology
  • The Gater 18 Hole Putting Course
  • Jacobsen-Hardy designed 9-hole regulation-length golf course

The Gate is designed to make golf more accessible to families and players of all skill levels, while providing high-quality golf and hospitality experiences at affordable rates.

Position Overview

The Golf Shop Attendant provides welcoming guest service and supports the daily operation of the golf shop. Working under the direction of the Director of Golf and golf professional staff, this position assists with tee-time reservations, golfer check-in, retail sales, and payment processing. The attendant maintains an organized shop and coordinates with outside services to help deliver a smooth, enjoyable golf experience.

Guest Service & Communication

• Welcome guests promptly and create a friendly, helpful experience for families, beginners, and golfers of all skill levels.

• Answer telephone and in-person inquiries providing accurate information on golf, The Bays, The Gater, lessons, and other club offerings.

• Listen to guest needs, provide clear directions, and refer concerns or requests as appropriate.

Reservations & Golf Check-In

• Book, modify, and cancel tee times according to established procedures; maintain accurate guest information and reservation details.

• Check in golfers, confirm nine-hole or eighteen-hole play, and explain applicable fees, policies, and starting instructions.

• Coordinate with the starter and outside services on arrivals, cancellations, delays, cart needs, and returning eighteen-hole groups.

• Keep the tee sheet current and communicate schedule changes promptly to support orderly starts and an efficient pace of play.

Retail Sales & Merchandising

• Assist guests with apparel, equipment, accessories, and logo merchandise; offer product information and recommendations based on their needs.

• Maintain clean, organized displays; fold and size apparel, replenish merchandise, and ensure approved pricing is accurate.

• Assist with receiving deliveries, checking quantities, tagging merchandise, and organizing stockrooms; report damaged goods or shipment discrepancies.

• Support inventory counts, communicate low-stock items and guest requests, and assist with special orders under the direction of golf management.

Payments & Daily Shop Operations

• Process golf fees and retail purchases accurately through the point-of-sale system; issue receipts and follow approved payment procedures.

• Handle cash responsibly, reconcile assigned cash drawers, and promptly report transaction errors or discrepancies to a supervisor.

• Process returns, exchanges, and discounts only within approved policies; safeguard merchandise, guest information, and payment details.

• Complete opening and closing checklists, maintain a tidy sales counter and shop, and secure assigned areas according to procedures.

Team Support & Safety

• Communicate clearly with golf professional staff and outside services, provide timely shift handoffs, and assist with event check-in and setup.

• Maintain a professional appearance and perform other related duties assigned by golf management.

• Follow established safety, weather, and emergency procedures; promptly report hazards, incidents, system issues, and guest concerns.

Requirements:

Qualifications

• Customer service, retail, or hospitality experience preferred; previous golf shop experience is helpful but not required.

• Friendly, professional communication, attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing requests in an active guest-service environment.

• Dependability, punctuality, integrity when handling payments and guest information, and the ability to work cooperatively with others.

• Basic computer and math skills; willingness to learn point-of-sale systems, tee-sheet software, golf terminology, and club offerings.

• Availability for early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays based on operational needs.

• Ability to perform duties involving extended standing and walking, bending, reaching, and lifting or moving merchandise, with or without reasonable accommodation.
