Position Guidelines

JOB TITLE: Research Scientist CLASSIFICATION: Exempt

DEPARTMENT: Research & Development DATE REVISED: 9-16-2026

SUMMARY

Assist in the coordination and execution of departmental projects (assigned and/or team projects). Provide technical support in the development of vaccines; including but not limited to antigen discovery, formulation, process development, assay development, and efficacy studies. Will also interact with Department Heads, research team members, and other departments, for the purpose of determining needs, reporting results, providing technical support and for product development and improvement.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

Reports to: Chief Scientific Officer

Supervises: Has no supervisory responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct assigned projects, experiments, or departmental activities to meet the project goals and timeline.
  • Collect, maintain, and organize data in the form of a laboratory notebook, bench record, animal record, electronic project database, and/or production record.
  • Communicate data/results in the form of written or oral reports.
  • Analyze data and provide an analysis of data/results and provide suggestions for next steps.
  • Conduct assigned projects in order to achieve project goals.
  • Maintain laboratory and equipment in order to meet project and regulatory requirements.
  • Interact with lab personnel, as well as other departments within the company.
  • The incumbent has technical responsibility to project teams and project goals.
  • Must be able to conduct project assignments with limited supervision and be able to lead own projects.
  • For the accurate and honest documentation and reporting of research data and results.
  • Work in a safe and productive manner with the guidelines established by policy and delegated authority.
  • Acts within the guidelines established by company policy and delegated authority.
  • Accountable for complying with the company handbook and all policies set by the company.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • The position requires an M.S. or Ph.D. degree in Microbiology or related life sciences field. Candidates with 2-4 years of experience are preferred with Molecular Biology, in-vitro Assay Development, Cell Culture, Recombinant DNA techniques, Virology and Vaccinology expertise.
  • The candidate must be familiar with the principle of veterinary biologics, research and development of biologics, diagnostic assays, vaccine production, quality control and regulatory agencies.
  • The position requires good verbal and written skills, knowledge of the use and care of animals, and good manufacturing, laboratory, and clinical practices.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Besides basic mathematical skills, the candidate should have working knowledge and capabilities in biostatistics and associated software.

REASONING ABILITY

Has the ability to work independently or in teams and can support their actions and hypotheses from primary literature.
