At RWJBarnabas Health, our clinical leadership teams become part of a purpose-driven environment where teamwork, compassion, and exceptional patient care create meaningful experiences every day. This leadership role offers exceptional opportunities for organizational growth, supportive team collaboration, and a department culture deeply committed to quality, safety, and continuous clinical improvement. Joining our team means joining a community where every professional is encouraged to lead, contribute, and make a lasting impact on our community's healing journey.

A Typical Day
As our Behavioral Health Clinical Supervisor, a typical day might include the following:

  • Clinical Supervision & Leadership: Providing ongoing clinical supervision and mentorship to frontline psychiatric team members while ensuring daily activities remain on schedule.
  • Direct Psychiatric Care: Delivering direct clinical services, comprehensive assessments, and crisis intervention protocols on behalf of component consumers.
  • Operations & Schedule Management: Coordinating staff schedules to guarantee appropriate coverage, managing call-outs, vacations, and review assignments.
  • Workforce Development: Partnering with the Director to recruit, train, evaluate, and encourage staff development efforts, including competency reviews and performance appraisals.
  • Treatment Planning & Navigation: Conducting intakes, leading comprehensive service plan revisions, meeting with family members, and planning safe, supportive discharge or follow-up workflows.
  • Data Reporting & Compliance: Collecting operational data, meeting productivity quotas, gathering customer satisfaction surveys, and keeping the department compliant with all applicable policies, laws, and regulations.

This Role Might Be For You If:

  • You are deeply passionate about leading clinical teams and creating a safe, welcoming, and non-judgmental environment during behavioral health crisis stabilization.
  • You excel under pressure, maintain an exceptional professional demeanor, and stay highly current on acute crisis intervention and psychiatric de-escalation practices.
  • You are a highly analytical, detail-oriented leader who values data integrity, accurate clinical documentation, and workflow organization.
  • You thrive in a highly collaborative team environment alongside nurses, medical physicians, and supportive social service agencies.
  • You believe that clinical leadership excellence is optimized and strengthened through empathy, open communication, and active coaching.

  • Education: Master's Degree in Psychology, Sociology, Behavioral Health, or a related field is strictly required.
  • Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of post-master's experience actively working within a behavioral health, psychiatric, or crisis intervention setting is required. Proven supervisory or clinical leadership experience is required.
  • Licensure: Valid Driver's License is required.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to meet the physical demands of a high-pressure crisis screening environment with or without reasonable accommodation (including clear vision, clear speech, restriction-free walking, lifting, pushing, pulling, and managing potential physical assault risks from acute psychiatric clients).
