About This Position

R&D Lab Technician

The R&D Lab Technician is responsible for multi-tasking of experiment processing, materials testing, results analysis, and evaluation, understanding materials properties and performance of existing and new development films, and working closely with research engineers. The objective is to provide Product Development and Technical Service with accurate, consistent, timely data, observations, and conclusions in support of all development activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and enforce all company safety, environmental, and department of health requirements.
  • Communicate with Product Development Engineers and Quality Assurance personnel.
  • Coordinate third-party testing of products, as needed.
  • Assist in investigating product material discrepancies with emphasis on root cause identification and corrective action implementation.
  • Support interpretation of non-routine analysis.
  • Travel to and assist customers and Taghleef Industries manufacturing sites as necessary in areas of materials investigation, processing, specifications, and analytical equipment support.
  • Train and/or coordinate training of team members and other personnel as necessary.
  • Conduct and enforce all job duties in accordance with the company’s published policies.

  • Manage and prioritize the activities of on-site material analysis and testing.
  • Provide internal and external customers with materials analysis and testing services and/or assist in developing testing programs.
  • Manage all actions and activities to assure that the test requests are handled in an expeditious manner in order to meet customer demands and timelines.
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma. Some education in chemistry or science related field would be beneficial.
  • Speak and write fluently in English.
  • Minimum three years of work experience in Ti with good track record and with experience in laboratory, preferred but not required.
  • Excellence in achieving results and a focus on reporting accurate details.
  • Ability to learn and perform a variety of operations, and test procedures related to physical properties film, master batches, compounds, additives, raw materials etc., as well as analytical testing procedures using microscopes, FTIR, etc.
  • Excellence in generation, analysis and reporting of data.
  • Basic computer and Microsoft software products skills.
  • Some working knowledge of plastics processing and physical properties testing preferred but not required.

Performance Measurements:

  • Driving improvement and productivity- Laboratory objectives generally fall into five categories: development needed by the organization, cost reductions, improved system efficiency, cultural issues, and work safety initiatives.
  • Customer Service (Price, Delivery, Support, Satisfaction) Price comparisons to competition, number of on-time deliveries, response times, customer complaints, number of product returns, customer survey results, service awards, etc.)
  • Internal Operations (Efficiency, Costs, Production, Inventories) Cycle times, inventory turnovers, defect rates, plant utilization, targets met, unit cost compared to competition overhead trends, etc.
  • Innovation (New Products, Technology, R & D) Number of new products, number of patents, new technologies adopted, system improvements implemented, etc.
  • Financial (Profitability, Growth, Value) Return on Equity, growth rate compared to industry growth rate, EVA, levels of operating cash flow, etc.
