About This Position

Title: Fitness Instructor

Reports To: Fitness Director

Wage: $20-$25.00 hourly

Status: Part Time, Non-Exempt

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Fitness Instructor will provide group fitness as requested and scheduled for Neal Fitness Center members.

Classes provided at Neal Fitness Center include: Cycle, Yoga, Zumba, Strength Training, HIIT, Aqua fitness, and senior fitness classes.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide 30 to 60 minutes classes in compliance with current fitness standards

  • Demonstrate leadership to assure conduct, safety and development of member

  • Excellent knowledge of how to instruct fitness classes to properly train clients

  • Vast knowledge of different protocols for fitness classes

  • The ability to manage varying schedules and needs of clients

  • Strong Knowledge cardiac disease and medications

Program Development and Implementation

  • Establish and maintain, in partnership with the Fitness Director fitness class and key performance indicators

  • Participate in the evaluation of fitness class and provide feedback to leadership

  • Propose to Fitness Director specialized programming

Supervision

  • Perform proper and timely record keeping and reporting including activities and events conducted, notable achievements and any problems/issues.

Additional Responsibilities

  • May support special programs and/or events and/or participate in the implementation of other Club activities as necessary.

  • Consult with the Fitness Director on any member issues or concerns

Relationships

  • Internal: Maintain close, daily contact with members service staff and fitness director, Club members, community members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, and advise/counsel.

  • Team oriented positive attitude and demeanor is required in the workplace at all times

  • External: Maintain positive relationships with community members, partner organizations, clients, and contracted services, as needed.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • High school diploma or GED.

  • 6 months; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience preferred.

  • NCAA Group Exercise Instructor certification required, ACSM, ACE, ASFA, preferred

  • First Aid and CPR/AED certification, or willingness to obtain within 90 days of employment.

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Group leadership skills, including an understanding of group dynamics.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be able to sit, stand or walk for extended periods of time.

  • Must be able to squat or bend to communicate at youths’ level.

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and carry up to 10 pounds for short periods of time.

  • Must be willing and able to actively participate in regular in-service training and maintain minimum fitness levels required to perform duties.
