About This Position
Position Summary
Under general supervision, but in accordance with established policies and procedures, provides instruction/training to other department personnel regarding surgical instrumentation and case carts including identification, cleaning/ handling, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilization, and storage.
Job Responsibilities
- Decontamination of surgical instruments and equipment using detergents and disinfecting solutions.
- Assembly and preparation of instruments and supplies for sterilization by checking all instruments for visible cleanliness, flexibility, and proper function; assembly of instrument trays according to specific instruments, procedures, including specialty trays; utilization of cleaning ultrasonic cleaner and other equipment associated with proper cleaning of instruments.
- Proper wrapping, sealing, and labeling of instruments, supplies, and equipment for sterilization and labeling of trays.
Education/Experience
- High school diploma or GED
- Level of knowledge equivalent to that ordinarily acquired through completion of two years of technical training as an instrument technician
- Certification from an accredited Instrument Technician Program
