UNC Health Appalachian is seeking a diligent and detail-oriented individual to join our team as an Insurance Verification Representative. In this role, you will play a vital part in ensuring accurate verification of patient insurance coverage and benefits, facilitating smooth and efficient billing processes. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, excellent communication abilities, and a commitment to providing exceptional patient care. Key Responsibilities:
- Verify patient insurance coverage and benefits prior to scheduled appointments or procedures.
- Communicate with patients, insurance companies, and healthcare providers to gather necessary information for verification purposes.
- Accurately document insurance verification details in electronic health records (EHR) or designated systems.
- Identify any discrepancies or issues with insurance coverage and work proactively to resolve them in a timely manner.
- Collaborate with billing and coding teams to ensure accurate and timely submission of claims.
- Assist patients with understanding their insurance coverage, including copayments, deductibles, and out-of-pocket expenses.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information and adhere to HIPAA guidelines at all times.
- Provide excellent customer service to patients, addressing any inquiries or concerns related to insurance verification.
- Stay updated on changes in insurance regulations, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance and accuracy in verification processes.
- Participate in training sessions and professional development activities to enhance skills and knowledge in insurance verification practices.
Compensation is commensurate with education and experience. Hiring compensation ranges from $15.00-$21.75 per hour. This position is benefits eligible after a 60-day waiting period.
Position Qualifications Minimum Education- Completion of a high school diploma or GED
- Three to six months of experience in a medical office, clinic, or acute care site is preferred

- Knowledge of and works within the scope of the admissions and scheduling representative.
- Ability to communicate courteously and effectively with the public, patients, family, staff, and physicians; acts within the chain of command, utilizing positive verbal and non-verbal skills.
- A clear understanding of computer processes, fax, phone, and scanning.
- Knowledge of compliance and attention to detail.
- Ability to demonstrate exceptional customer service to patients, family, staff, and physicians.
- Lifts, pushes, and pulls, up to 50 pounds
- Manual dexterity and mobility
- Prolonged, extensive or considerable sitting/standing/walking > 7 hours per day
- Bending, squatting, twisting, turning
- Near acuity: ability to see clearly at 20 inches or less
- Regularly exposed to the risk of bloodborne diseases
- Exposed to hazards from electrical/mechanical/power equipment
- Exposed to odorous chemicals and specimens
- Exposed to unpleasant elements (accident, injury, slippery surfaces uneven surfaces), etc.
- Handles emergency or crises
- Subject to irregular hours (days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays)
