Job Description

  • JOB SUMMARY
    • The Emergency Management (EM) Specialist serves UK King’s Daughters and reports directly to the Director of Emergency Management. The primary responsibilities of the EM Specialist include Training Compliance, Program Development Exercises and Communication Planning, Regulatory Compliance, Hospital Compliance and Professional Development. Specific duties include establishing and maintaining a communications platform and program development through exercises, ensuring key hospital personnel receive appropriate mandatory training in emergency preparedness, assisting with accreditation yearly, and continuing professional development and training.
  • DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    • Overall performance rating of below indicated essential job duties:
    • Assists in development of Safety, Emergency Management, and Environment of Care programs as needed.
    • Co-Chairs Environment of Care & Emergency Management Committees.
    • Assists in develops and maintains safety educational programs as needed.
      Attends all customer relations, guaranteed patient satisfaction and mandatory training programs.
    • Organize components for the annual safety education as the UK King’s Daughters Safety Officer along with other key safety leaders to provide mandatory and relevant safety education to all UK King’s Daughters team members.
    • Maintains the Organizational Safety Manual to assure current status at all times.
    • Accountable for attaining customer service goals in areas of responsibility.
    • Manage and oversee programs and functions across UK King’s Daughters related to Emergency Management Program.
      Establish, implement, and maintain Emergency Management standards for all departments.
    • Ensure compliance with federal, state, local and Joint Commission requirements.
    • Inform staff regarding changes in code standards, procedures, and other issues that affects their working environment, when needed.
    • Conduct ongoing Emergency Management educational needs assessment. Responsible for encouraging and supporting departmental personnel to improve through continuing education and training.
    • Assists in the review all Environment of Care & Emergency Management plans, policies, and procedures annually and revise as necessary to be in compliance with standards set by regulatory agencies.
    • Facilitate the design, development, maintenance and testing of the overall business continuity and disaster recovery plans for each critical functional area of the organization.
    • Provide leadership direction and strategic planning to emergency operations teams.
    • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
    • Work closely with Information Technology and other business units to coordinate and develop critical business processes to ensure a state of readiness in the event a disaster or business disruption.
    • Provide detailed work plans and status reports, assists business units with staff training.
    • Assist in the implementation and maintenance of the UK Kings Daughters Workplace Violence program.
    • Conduct safety audits as a member of the Environment of Care rounding team.
    • Responsible for contributing to a productive work environment.
    • Maintain open and amiable communication with UK King’s Daughters physicians and staff.
    • Design and implement quality service and performance improvement processes that contribute to service improvement goals of all departments in the Service Area.
    • Coordinate employee related functions as required to effectively support UK King’s Daughters goals and objectives.
  • EDUCATION/LICENSE/ CERTIFICATIONS/OTHER REQUIREMENTS
    • Minimum requirement:
      • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
      • Completion of NIMS courses (IS-100, IS-200, IS-700, and IS-800) required within six months of hire.
      • Completion of FEMA Professional Development Series and/or Professional Continuity Practitioner preferred.
      • Well versed in The Joint Commission (TJC) Standards, for EOC & EM.
      • Maintains active Driver's License.
    • Preferred qualifications:
  • WORKING ENVIRONMENT
    • This job operates in a professional office environment routinely using standard office equipment such as computers.
    • Occasionally requires travel to and from off-site locations
    • The noise level in this position is usually low.
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS
    • Frequently required to maintain a stationary position behind a computer or while presenting to individuals or groups.
    • Frequently required to move about throughout the Medical Center or while rounding.
    • Constantly required to communicate with people electronically, telephonically and in-person requiring talking and hearing.
    • Constantly required to operate a computer and telephone.
    • Constantly required to lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.
    • Frequently required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
    • Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
