GENERAL SUMMARY/BASIC PURPOSE OF JOB:
The Groundskeeper operates under the general supervision of the Director of Facilities Engineering or the Engineering Operations Manager and can be responsible for all types of general building maintenance as assigned and per work orders issued. The primary responsibilities of this position involve the cleaning and maintenance of the exterior areas of the facility including the parking garage. This position will also be responsible for shoveling snow and salting on sidewalks and common areas.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:
• Daily cleaning, sweeping, and pick up of debris at all facility entrances, sidewalks and common areas as assigned.
• Daily cleaning of the parking garage, including elevator lobbies and stairwells as needed.
• Daily emptying of all trash receptacles at all common areas as required to assure that receptacles are maintained at about half full, or so that no trash is visible from the top at all times.
• Daily pick up of any items in the grassy areas around the hospital buildings specifically; the garden area in front of the main entrance, all flower beds or green areas, and all parking lots.
• Maintaining the sidewalks at all building entrances including power washing to remove gum and stains on a weekly basis, or as needed, from April through October.
• Respond to calls for cleanup of blood, vomit and other body fluids or biohazards that occur on the exterior of the buildings, cleaning and sanitizing those areas as required.
• Respond to calls from the Director, Operations Manager, or designee to assist with interior cleanup, equipment or furniture moving, floor degreasing and painting, and general labor as needed.
• Shovel and salt the sidewalks at all building entrances during any snow event making sure that entrance walks are kept as clear as possible.
• Respond to calls from the Operations manager, the engineering office, or the engineer on duty to come in for after-hours snow events and complete the snow removal process as needed.
• Manage the exterior storage areas and garden shed, including the parking garage storage room. Maintain salt and snow removal equipment in a safe and ready position during the winter.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
MINIMUM EDUCATION: NO EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS.
MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE:
• Experience working in a structured job setting.
Experience with grounds keeping or landscaping is a plus.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
• Must have the physical ability to handle a broom and shovel and to lift and carry heavy objects and to be standing or walking for several hours per day.
