Job Description
Position Overview:
The Parks Custodian is responsible for the cleaning, upkeep, and general maintenance of Borough parks, playgrounds, and recreational facilities. This position plays a key role in ensuring that community spaces are safe, clean, and welcoming for residents and visitors.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Perform daily cleaning of restrooms, pavilions, and recreational facilities, including sweeping, mopping, disinfecting, and restocking supplies. Empty trash receptacles, recycling containers, and maintain litter-free park grounds. Routinely inspect park areas to identify maintenance needs, safety hazards, or vandalism. Assist in seasonal tasks such as leaf removal, snow and ice control, and lawn care. Provide support for special events, including set-up, breakdown, and clean-up.
Operate cleaning and light maintenance equipment safely and efficiently. Perform other duties as assigned to support the Parks & Properties Department.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Prior custodial, groundskeeping, or maintenance experience preferred.
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs. and perform physical work in varying weather conditions.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness and public safety.
Must pass a criminal background check and drug screening as required by Borough policy.
Work Schedule
Standard 30-hour work week; hours may include evenings, weekends, or holidays to support Public Works Department and Community events.
