Job Description

Position Summary:
The Director of Camps is responsible for providing leadership to the Camp Program team in the development and implementation of programs under the Camp portion of Outdoor Education pillar. This position will work with the VP of Outdoor Experience to create a yearlong sustainable plan for camp programming. This role will ensure that we provide strong and impactful camp experiences for girls of all levels. The Director of Camps will report to and work alongside the VP of Outdoor Experience to ensure that programs are comprehensive, connect with curriculum when applicable, and lead to strong skills and portfolio building.

The Director of Camps will work with the full camp team to ensure alignment with larger council goals and streamlined efficiencies. This position is a mix of responsibilities including providing feedback and direction regarding program design on and off camp property, implementation and evaluation, teaching skills, administrative duties, and community outreach.

This role will be required to serve in an on-call/on-duty schedule as needed. When on-call/on-duty, staff must remain on-site.

Key Responsibilities:

Program Leadership
• Work with the camp program team to research, plan, and implement programs across Camp for girls that align with the National Program Portfolio and the Council’s overall strategic plan and the department’s yearlong goals.
• Support camp programs by providing customer service, administering program evaluations, ensuring program schedules are created and working on various reports.
• Develop and implement a yearlong plan based on strategic objectives, while being conscious of budget/grant needs, staffing structures, and partnerships.

• Manage contracts, deadlines, and deliverables for programs by working with the camp team.
• Work with the full camp team to plan programs from start to implementation including review of goals, providing information on current state of the work, strategic planning, and evaluation/feedback.
• Monitor performance of all programs and determine needs for improvement based on outcomes, grant requirements, and girl needs/interests.
• Work and communicate with VP of Outdoor Experience to provide recommendations for efficiency enhancement (systems, funding, processes, procedures, staffing).
• Ensure that programming targets every Girl Scout level – including being able to build on programs each year for additional knowledge for all girls.
• Provide detailed updates and strategy change suggestions to the VP of Outdoor Experience.
• Manage relationships with partners and vendors to ensure sufficient and positive program needs, resources, and services for girls.
• Work with the marketing and communications team on submitting requests in a timely manner for all programs.
• Other duties as assigned.

Facility Management
• Ensure compliance with all health and safety standards related to camp and outdoor protocols.
• Work with Facilities Director to manage all licensing protocols and guidelines, including preparing for renewals and any other licensing requirements.
• Respond to camper and personnel emergencies, general assistance questions and issues, and basic maintenance issues while providing solutions and appropriate/timely follow ups.
• Develop and maintain systems for all camp properties including documentation that utilizes best practices, processes, and procedures that support camp staff, external partners, and all troops.
• Work with Facilities Team to monitor all campgrounds and camp facilities to maintain security and efficiency.
• Other duties as assigned.

Funding Management
• Develop all camp budgets to present to the VP of Outdoor Experience that is comprehensive and supports yearlong goals, strategic plans, and GSSEM priorities.
• Create and track budget items against program implementation and costs.
• Provide reporting information for all programs to the VP of Outdoor Experience, including all evaluation details from multiple stakeholders (GSSEM, facilitators, participants, community members, families).
• Ensure camp program staff submit program evaluations for programs tied to budgets and grant reporting.
• Review, approve and process all invoices related to programming expenses.

Personnel Management
• Supervise and work alongside the camp program staff to outline and facilitate programming throughout the year.
• Hold regular check-ins with the Assistant Director of Camps to ensure that program needs are met and all staff have the tools and resources needed to be successful.
• Create an on-duty schedule for the full team.
• Provide performance appraisals during evaluation time.
• Support payroll and leave time approvals.

Requirements
Education
• Bachelor’s degree with concentration in a related field or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of five (5) years’ experience as a camp staff member. At least two (2) years as a full-time camp staff member.
• CPR and First Aid certified.
Position Qualifications
• This position requires registration as a member of Girl Scouts of the U.S.A.
• Minimum of three (3) years program management and implementation.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Experience in the following areas: facility management, hospitality, youth services, customer service, budget management, camp and outdoor education programming.
• Proven record of managing others through strategic execution and goal achievement.
• Experience working with volunteers, community members, partnership agreements and relationship maintenance.
• Demonstrated project management skills and experience.
• Ability to recruit, support, and evaluate adult volunteers.
• Demonstrated skills in creative thinking, problem solving, and innovation.
• Ability to effectively collaborate with other departments to meet mutual goals.
• Demonstrated skill in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn additional computer programs.
• Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule that includes regular evening and weekend hours. This includes an on-call schedule that requires on-site residence during those days.
• Experience working and/or managing a Girl Scout camp preferred.

Equipment Used: Computer, calculator, multi-line telephone, security alarm system, TV/audio equipment, overhead projector, and power point

Physical Activities: Climbing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, keyboard, talking, hearing and repetitive motions

Physical Demands: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 to 20 pounds of force frequently

Visual Acuity Required: Heavy acuity: Preparing and analyzing data and figures and using a computer terminal

Work Conditions: Activities occur both inside and outside
