About This Position

Job Summary:

The Department of Pediatrics is seeking an acute care pediatric Nurse Practitioner to provide advanced practice health care services in the inpatient hospital setting as well as documentation of services, collaborate with colleagues and clinical director, supervise assigned support staff, participate in quality assurance activities, and demonstrate a commitment to quality health care. The duties associated with this role will include but are not limited to the following:

• Management of inpatient and intermediate care level pediatric medical and surgical conditions in the inpatient pediatrics and intermediate care Units

• Patient evaluation, treatment plan development and implementation under the supervision of pediatric attending physicians.

• Coordinating with other medical professionals and specialists as necessary under the supervision of clinic faculty.

• Ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests such as lab work and x-rays, and providing parent, and family education under the supervision of inpatient pediatric attending physicians

• Updating medical records and completing progress notes on time.

• Supports and assists with hospital and unit specific quality improvement projects.

• Regular attendance at division, unit provider, and quality improvement meetings.

• Excellent communication skills with patients and interprofessional members of the team.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS OR CERTIFICATIONS:

Required:

• PALS certification

PACNP-BC (Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner - Board Certified)

CPNP-AC (Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner - Acute Care)

• Certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP)

• Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) by the Texas Board of Nursing (TBON)

• Licensed Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in a nurse practitioner clinical area of specialization by the Texas Board of Nursing (TBON)

Current RN's who have not yet completed their nurse practitioner program or recent graduates who have not yet obtained their ANCC/AANP certification or APRN nurse practitioner license are eligible to apply for this position. However, official employment is contingent upon the successful completion of an accredited nurse practitioner program, ANCC/AANP certification and APRN nurse practitioner licensure.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Minimum Qualifications:

• Completion of a graduate level (or higher) nurse practitioner program accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE)

• No experience required
