The Role:
The Lead Therapist supports the Director of Wellness in maintaining the day-to-day excellence of the treatment department. This role leads by example in delivering exceptional guest care, upholding treatment standards, and supporting a positive, professional team environment.
In addition to providing hands-on massage and/or esthetic services, the Lead Therapist assists with onboarding, training, and operational coordination for the therapy team and serves in a designated administrative capacity (such as DEM for the Board of Massage Therapy) as needed.
Reports to: Director of Wellness
Supervises: Therapists when a manager is not present and within delegated scope
Key Responsibilities:
Treatment Standards & Operations
Deliver massage and/or esthetic treatments in accordance with THE WELL’s brand standards, protocols, and safety guidelines.
Lead by example in guest consultation, treatment execution, and post-treatment recommendations.
Ensure treatment rooms are properly set up, broken down, and maintained throughout the day.
Conduct routine checks to uphold cleanliness, hygiene, and presentation standards in treatment and prep areas.
Stay current on product knowledge, treatment protocols, SOPs, and THE WELL’s Technical Manual.
Report equipment issues or maintenance needs and partner with leadership to support timely resolution.
Guest & Member Experience
Maintain the highest level of personalized service, ensuring guest preferences are documented, updated, and communicated to relevant team members.
Maintain strict confidentiality of guest medical, personal, and sensitive information.
Support a seamless guest journey by collaborating with Reservations and Guide teams to optimize scheduling and service flow.
Team Support & Training
Serve as a day-to-day resource for therapists by answering questions and assisting with room turnover, supplies, and guest needs.
Observe service delivery and provide feedback to leadership regarding quality, cleanliness, presentation, retail performance, and adherence to standards.
Partner with cross-functional leaders to assist with product knowledge and treatment education for the broader spa team
Administrative, Inventory & Supplies (Support Role)
Assist with stock control, inventory counts, and product/linen rotation.
Report shortages or operational challenges impacting the therapy team.
Maintain accurate records related to training and compliance as assigned.
Health, Safety & Hygiene
Follow and reinforce sanitation, hygiene, and safety protocols across all treatment areas.
Stay informed on applicable health, safety, and licensure requirements.
Promote a safe and respectful environment for guests and team members.
May serve in a designated administrative capacity (e.g., DEM) if required, under the direction of leadership.
Qualifications:
Required
Active state license in Massage Therapy and/or Esthetics
Reading, writing, and oral proficiency in English language.
Strong understanding of treatment protocols, guest experience standards, and hygiene practices
Proficiency with scheduling and wellness platforms (e.g., Zenoti), Google Suite, and basic spreadsheets
Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
Ability to work collaboratively with minimal supervision
Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
Preferred
3+ years of experience in a luxury spa or wellness environment
Experience supporting onboarding, training, or peer development
Bilingual (Spanish preferred)
