Job Description

JOB SUMMARY
    The Certified Nurse Aide Training Program is an intensive, paid,120.5 hour course. This program will prepare the employee to take the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program Competency Examination (NNAAP). All clinical hours will be completed at the Good Shepherd Home -Raker Center or Bethlehem Long Term Care. The goal of this program will be to successfully complete and pass the NNAAP which will lead to placement in a CNA position within long-term care at either the Good Shepherd Home-Raker Center or Bethlehem Long Term Care. In the CNA trainee role, you will enhance the effectiveness of the clinical team by collecting resident data, responding to resident requests, providing personal care, and maintaining a safe and healthy living environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    PROVIDES PATIENT CARE
      Trained how to prioritize, plan and complete resident care as assigned; Trained how to attend to personal care needs; Trained how to assist with resident transfers and ambulation; Trained how to obtain accurate vital signs and other clinical parameters; responding to patient requests; requesting RN or LPN supervision with new or unfamiliar tasks. Reviews Policy and Procedures prior to performing tasks that are unfamiliar.
    ESTABLISHES A COMPASIONATE ENVIRONMENT
      Trained how to provide emotional, psychological and spiritual support to residents and families and other associates.
    PROMOTES CUSTOMER SERVICE
      By greeting patients, visitors, and associates in person and on the telephone; answering questions within the scope of practice; relaying calls to patients; giving directions; and referring inquires to clinical staff and physicians.
    COMMUNICATES INFORMATION
      By collecting resident information and trained on how to document in a clinical record; Trained how to provide clinical reports at regular intervals to fellow certified nursing assistants, nurses, and instructor; notifying LPNs/RNs and instructor of significant findings or change in resident condition.
    DOCUMENTS RESIDENT/PATIENT CARE SERVICES
      Trained on how to record information in the chart as soon as possible after collection as well as reporting to instructor and nurse; Trained on how to record intake/output totals at the end of shift or specified times; Trained on how to record resident’s activity and care in the training resident record and communicates directly with certified nursing assistants, nurses, and instructor.
    MAINTAINS PATIENT CONFIDENCE AND ORGANIZATIONAL CONFIDENTIALITY
      By keeping information confidential; responding to patient requests using Tact and diplomacy.
    COLLECTS RESIDENT/PATIENT INFORMATION
      Trained on operating resident care equipment, including, blood pressure cuffs, lifts and scales according to policy and procedure; observing patient response to care; engaging patient in conversation and acting upon responses or requests.
    SUPPORTS UNIT EFFICIENCY
      Trained on how to clean and restocking resident equipment; Trained how to clean and monitor equipment; Trained how to use equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results; Trained how to report maintenance and equipment issues per policy; Punching in and out as per Good Shepherd policy and maintaining time sheets as necessary.
    MAINTAINS TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE
      By identifying own learning needs; by seeking resources to meet learning needs;
    CONTRIBUTES TO ORGANIZATIONAL TEAM EFFORT
      By arriving on duty as scheduled; maintaining attendance; demonstrating flexibility in response to change; by offering to assist other associates with patient care and unit activities that arise throughout the shift.
QUALIFICATIONS
    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.       Education
        High School Diploma or GED required
      Work Experience
        One year of experience in a healthcare setting preferred
      Licenses / Certifications
        CNA certification within 90 days of course completion required
