Custodian at The Campaign Against Hunger Inc. – Brooklyn, New York

Position Summary: As TCAH’s capacity to serve grows, so too must our footprint across the city. The Custodian will clean and provide upkeep for office spaces and warehouse buildings, maintains cleaning supplies and operates cleaning equipment, at each of TCAH’s sites in Brooklyn and Southeast Queens.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
• Cleans and keeps up various surfaces and material within a building or space
• Sweeps and mops floors
• Washes windows and cleans shades
• Cleans and disinfects toilets and replenishes supplies such as toilet paper, soap, and paper towels
• Responds to urgent situations, such as spills, that require quick action
• Orders cleaning supplies and equipment and maintains an appropriate stock at all times
• Mixes liquids and solvents from basic materials to create effective cleaning supplies
• Operates and maintains equipment such as vacuums and floor cleaners
• Collects and removes trash from the offices, warehouses or any TCAH space
• Notifies supervisor when major repairs, including structural issues or highly skilled tasks, are required
• Advise supervisor or maintenance of heat or cooling systems problems.
• Maintains a level of security in a building, such as locking doors and securing keys
• Performs outdoor upkeep as necessary, including sweeping sidewalk, walkways and shoveling snow
• Required to work when facilities are closed to the public or for any event
Personal and Professional Characteristics:
• At least 1 year of custodian experience
• Familiarity with a wide range of cleaning products and tools
• Comfortable working in a fast paced environment
• Good time management
• Attention to details
• Ability to lift at least 30 lbs
• Ability to work independently
• Good physical stamina
• Willingness to work at and travel to multiple TCAH locations
