Position: Recreational Aide
Location: Great Onyx Job Corps - Mammoth Cave, KY
Job Type: Full-time, 40hrs/week, 3:30pm - 12:00am Wednesday - Sunday

Located in Mammoth Cave, KY
Offers free housing, meals, and basic medical care to eligible students ages 16–24
Provides training in high-growth industries such as construction, culinary arts, forestry conservation, welding, and office administration
Operated by the U.S. Forest Service as part of the national Job Corps program
Position Overview
The Recreational Aide assists in providing leadership and guidance to students in a group living environment. This role promotes the development of positive social skills, stress relief techniques, employability skills, and workplace success habits through modeling appropriate behavior and positive intervention. The position requires initiative, interpersonal skill, and the ability to maintain order while encouraging student participation.
Key Responsibilities
Provide on-site oversight of recreational activities for students of varying skill levels and backgrounds
Ensure a safe, healthy atmosphere during recreational and physical fitness activities
Schedule, coordinate, and supervise group activities (basketball, volleyball, softball, etc.), including reservations, transportation, and logistics
Operate government vehicles to transport students to off-site activities
Prepare facilities and ensure equipment and supplies are available for scheduled activities
Participate in the Behavior Management System (BMS) and Student Code of Conduct (SCC) programs to reinforce proper conduct and appearance
Meet with students to discuss challenges in recreational activities and provide practical guidance
Instruct students on sportsmanship, team cooperation, and healthy interaction skills
Submit monthly recreation and activity reports as required
Ensure compliance with all safety rules and regulations
Qualifications
Valid driver’s license required
Completion of Defensive Driving Course and AgLearn course required
Ability to communicate effectively with students and staff
Strong interpersonal skills to navigate potential conflicts with professionalism and calm demeanor
Physical ability to participate in and supervise sports and fitness activities (standing, walking, running, lifting)
Ideal Candidate
