Job Description:
The City of Chesapeake is seeking a compassionate and skilled Registered Nurse to provide essential healthcare services at Chesapeake Juvenile Services.

What You’ll Do
- Provide direct nursing care as a Registered Nurse in a secure juvenile services setting
- Complete admission physicals and health assessments
- Conduct sick call and respond to medical needs
- Administer medications and monitor for adverse reactions
- Implement physician orders and coordinate follow-up care
- Provide emergency medical response as needed
- Assess resident complaints and determine appropriate treatment or referral
- Deliver medication education and health counseling to residents
- Serve as a liaison between residents, families, physicians, and staff
- Maintain accurate medical records, logs, and documentation
- Monitor and maintain inventory of medical supplies and medications
- Prepare medical discharge summaries, as needed
Leadership & Collaboration
- Supervise, train, and evaluate assigned personnel as a Registered Nurse
- Conduct and participate in staff meetings to support communication and problem-solving
- Provide health-related training to staff

Required Qualifications:
VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT:
Requires graduation from an RN diploma program or an associate’s degree in nursing from an accredited college or university.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires a minimum of two years of related, full-time equivalent experience.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:
Requires licensure as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia or a reciprocal state (according to the Nurse Licensure Compact as prescribed by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing).
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
