Occupational Therapist at Littleton Hospital Association – Franconia, New Hampshire

SUMMARY AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Licensed Occupational Therapists are responsible for the delivery of skilled patient care in a safe and timely manner to all of those referred for services. The Occupational Therapist understands and adheres to all hospital and departmental policies and procedures, as well as complying with the New Hampshire Occupational Therapy Practice Act (RSA 326-C:1).

Occupational Therapy practice is based on the New Hampshire Occupational Therapy Practice Act, RSA 326-C:1, which includes, but is not limited to:

Assessment and Evaluation: Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients' physical, cognitive, and emotional capabilities to identify functional limitations and formulate individualized treatment plans.

Treatment Planning: Develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans, including therapeutic interventions and activities, to enhance patients' independence and functional abilities.

Rehabilitation: Provide occupational therapy interventions to address a wide range of conditions, such as orthopedic injuries, neurological disorders, and other physical impairments, with a focus on restoring patients' daily living skills. Designing, fabricating, applying, and/or training in the use of assistive technology or orthotic devices, and training in the use of prosthetic devices.

Patient Education: Educate patients and their families on adaptive techniques, assistive devices, and home exercises to promote independence and self-management.

Collaboration: Work closely with a multidisciplinary healthcare team, including physical therapists, physicians, nurses, and social workers, to ensure holistic patient care and optimal outcomes.

Documentation: Maintain accurate and timely patient records, documenting treatment progress, outcomes, and any changes in the treatment plan.

Inpatient Care: Provide occasional inpatient occupational therapy services as needed services in inpatient settings as needed, such as acute care, emergency department, same-day surgery, obstetrics unit, and/or the intensive care unit, participating in rounds and discharge planning to facilitate a smooth transition from hospital to home.

Continuing Education: Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in occupational therapy, attend workshops, and contribute to the hospital's commitment to excellence in care.

Compliance: Ensure all therapy services adhere to hospital policies, industry standards, and state regulations, with a strong focus on patient safety and privacy.

REPORTS TO: Director of Rehabilitation Services

SUPERVISES: A licensed Occupational Therapist supervises the care given by a Licensed Occupational Therapy Assistant and Occupational Therapy Students. An Occupational Therapist also directs and supervises all tasks designated to a Rehabilitation Aide and other support personnel.

INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL CONTACTS: Patients and families, Hospital Personnel, Physicians and office

Staff, Financial and Legal Representatives, Community Members, Contracting Agencies, Students and Academic Coordinators, Home Health, and Co-workers.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

• Must have degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited school (minimum requirement is Bachelor of Science)
• Must have a current license or be eligible for licensure in the State of New Hampshire
• BLS required

Experience: Previous outpatient orthopedic experience preferred

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Works primarily in hospital and outpatient clinic areas with occasional work in community areas. Exposure to heat, cold, and hazards including communicable diseases and blood borne pathogens due to patient conditions and equipment.
