Wage Range: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour
Union Gospel Mission Twin Cities (UGMTC) provides emergency shelter, food, basic needs and wraparound programs for people facing homelessness, hunger and addiction in the community. Located in Saint Paul, UGMTC opened its doors in 1902 and has been feeding, sheltering and offering the hope of Jesus Christ to people in need ever since.
Mission: To provide Christ-centered, life-changing pathways for all people who are experiencing homelessness, hunger and addiction.

The Bethel Hotel provides men experiencing homelessness a clean bed, a hot meal, a warm shower, life skills and spiritual support in a safe, caring environment. The Bethel Hotel is a 24-hour service facility which comprises transitional housing rooms and shelter beds.
POSITION SUMMARY
Under general supervision, the Intake Specialist conducts intake assessments for new Bethel Hotel guests, gathering required information and connecting individuals to appropriate UGMTC programs and services across the Men's Campus. This role interviews guests, documents pertinent data for referral and case-management processes, and provides clear, accurate overviews of available services—including Emergency Overnight Shelter, Housing Plus, ACTS Training Program, Christ Recovery Center, Mental Health Services, and Support Services—to support informed next steps toward stability and growth.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Intake & Documentation
- At the direction of the Program Director, carry out established Bethel Hotel intake processes in alignment with UGMTC's mission, policies, and values.
- Conduct detailed intake assessments for all new shelter and housing residents, providing clear overviews of Men's Campus programs and available resources.
- Gather required information and create accurate resident records in CaseWorthy; enter all intake documentation in accordance with program standards and compliance requirements.
- Maintain up-to-date CaseWorthy records as directed, supporting referrals and ongoing case-management efforts.
- Program Coordination & Referrals
- Collaborate with Program Directors, Chaplains, Support Services, and Bethel Hotel staff to support resident progress and appropriate program placement.
- Assist with referrals to internal programs and resources and help maintain the integrity and coordination of Men's Campus services.
- Maintain working knowledge of UGMTC Men's Campus programs and relevant resident situations to provide accurate guidance.
- Provide updates to the Emergency Services Interdisciplinary Team regarding guest progress, needs, and recommended next steps in support of coordinated care planning.
- Hospitality & Resident Support
- Create a welcoming environment that reflects compassionate, Christ-centered hospitality toward residents, guests, volunteers, and staff.
- Provide facility tours of Bethel Hotel residential areas and program overviews for new residents.
- Respond to resident and community inquiries regarding UGMTC mission, programs, and services.
- Safety & Conflict Response
- Use established conflict-prevention and de-escalation methods to address resident concerns or behavioral issues.
- Support Shelter Advocates, security personnel, or emergency services when situations escalate, following UGMTC protocols.
- Communicate relevant resident behavior updates to Program Directors and appropriate staff.
- Teamwork & Mission Alignment
- Support and uphold UGMTC's Christian mission, values, and behavioral expectations in all duties.
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Associate Degree in Human Services or related field, or equivalent work experience
- 2 years experience working with people experiencing homelessness, poverty, or addiction in a residential setting
- 2 years of intake related or case management experience preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES REQUIRED
- Support UGMTC's Christian statement of faith and demonstrate a desire to share faith, prayer, and encouragement appropriately with residents, staff, and volunteers.
- Maintain strict resident confidentiality in accordance with UGMTC policy, applicable laws, and HIPAA privacy regulations.
- Demonstrate conflict-prevention, de-escalation, and resolution skills in high-stress environments.
- Maintain good judgment, emotional self-control, and professional boundaries.
- Show strong organizational and administrative skills with attention to detail.
- Be proficient with Microsoft Office, CaseWorthy, and other business-related software applications.
- Read, understand, and follow safety procedures and written or verbal instructions.
- Demonstrate knowledge of issues impacting individuals experiencing homelessness and other underserved or at-risk communities.
- Think analytically and make fact-based, objective decisions within established policies.
- Use strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively in a culturally diverse community.
- Work collaboratively with staff in coordinating support activities and maintaining a team-oriented, hospitality-focused approach.
- Implement program guidelines faithfully and offer constructive suggestions for improvement.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT
- Work is performed in an emergency shelter / transitional housing environment with no unusual physical demands.
- Work requires pushing, pulling, reaching, crouching, stooping, walking, twisting, carrying, and other physical activities
- Work is performed in an environment that may cause employee to encounter men in various states of dress.
- Moderate to high exposure to physical risk.
- Must be able to lift 10 lbs.
