Responsible for the administration of the operational and general business functions of Hospital Medicine within the Department of Medicine The Supervisor, Hospital Medicine reports to the Chief Administrative Officer in the Department of Medicine.

I. Major Responsibilities:

1. Partners with Chief of Hospital Medicine on the business affairs of the division. Monitors and approves expenditures during the fiscal year ensuring compliance with budget. Analyzes variance of actual expenses to budget and prepares reports explaining budget variances. Develops funding strategies to support current and proposed budgets.
2. Develops revenue forecasts, performs analysis of billing activities and clinical productivity. Ensures accurate reimbursement for offsite clinic payments in conjunction with accounting office. Monitors billing revenue to ensure maximum reimbursement. Develops and reviews financial and productivity forecasts.
3. Monitors and assigns appropriate cost center codes for all expenses within division.
4. Interacts with faculty on multiple campuses to ensure questions are answered and reimbursement via practice allowance etc. are processed timely and accurately.
5. Collaborates with clinical chief and associate chiefs to ensure day to day operations work smoothly.
6. Completes special projects and planning initiatives. Evaluates methods and procedures or develops alternative techniques for processing work or improving the operating efficiency/effectiveness of Hospital Medicine.
7. Directs and supervises assigned personnel including performance evaluations, scheduling, orientation, and training. Makes recommendations on employee hires, transfers, promotions, salary changes, discipline, terminations, and similar actions. Resolves grievances and other personnel problems within position responsibilities. Works closely with HR to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
8. Coordinates the assignment of tasks and helps resolve technical and operational problems. Evaluates the impact of solutions to ensure goals are achieved. Develops collaborative relationships with hospital clinic management.
9. Provides effective direction, guidance, and leadership over the staff for effective teamwork and motivation, and fosters the effective integration of efforts with system-wide initiatives.
10. Works with the department leaders to assure that compliance policies are executed for the department and participating physicians.
11. Encourages and supports diverse views and approaches, creating an environment of professionalism, respect, tolerance, civility and acceptance toward all employees, patients and visitors.
12. Integrates diversity into departmental objectives, such as hiring, promotions, training, vendor selections, etc.
13. Participates in performance improvement initiatives and demonstrates the use of quality improvement in daily operations.
14. Ensures compliance with regulatory agencies such as Joint Commission, DPH, etc. Develops and maintains procedures necessary to meet regulatory requirements.
15. Ensures that department complies with hospital established policies, quality assurance programs, safety, and infection control policies and procedures.
16. Ensures adequate equipment and supplies for department.
17. Develops and maintains established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives.
18. Ensures compliance to all health and safety regulations and requirements.
19. Performs similar or related duties as required or directed.

All responsibilities are essential job functions.

II. Position Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or related healthcare degree. Requires three years of relevant work experience, one of which is in a supervisory or management capacity. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Requires proficiency in computer systems. Must have ability to perform a variety of complex duties ranging from direct involvement in individual processes to overseeing projects.

Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.

Department-specific competencies, including age-specific competencies and their measurements, will be developed and maintained in the individual departments. The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description. Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents.

III. Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions:

Work is considered sedentary. Position requires work indoors in a normal office environment.
