Job Description:

Creates positive patient and customer experience by consistently exceeding expectations in patient care by coordinating clerical and medical activities of a healthcare team within a clinical entity in alignment with CLS Core Values.

Operates electroencephalographs to measure and record the electrical activity of brain waves via electrodes secured to the patient's scalp to successfully administer electroencephalograms (EEGs), as directed by the physician.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs electro neurodiagnostic studies as per written protocols.
  • Utilize testing equipment to monitor patients during sleep cycles, when necessary
  • Performs pre-test consultations and records the patient's medical history and explain the test procedure to patients.
  • Explains procedures to patient, elicits and records medical history from patient and/or chart.
  • Applies standard scalp electrodes to meet the standard 10/20 placement.
  • Records the studies and independently makes alteration of the test protocol based on history and on the ongoing study. Recognize normal and abnormal variants in study recording and acts accordingly.
  • Recognizes and corrects electrical and electronic malfunction.
  • Monitors and reviews raw study and video data.
  • Prepares the completed hard copy of neurodiagnostic studies for interpretation.
  • Completes the “Technician Impression” sheet which serves as the preliminary report.
  • Edits and archives neurodiagnostic recordings.
  • Competently performs routine inpatient and outpatient neurodiagnostic procedures.
  • Sets up and provides assistance with area specific neurodiagnostic procedures.
  • Provides for patient safety related to age and condition.
  • Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality of information and records at all times.
  • Provides and maintains a clean, safe environment, free of obstacles, and conducive to a professional environment.
  • Maintains isolation procedures and follows infection control measures.
  • Maintains patient care areas with appropriate supplies and equipment. Notifies the Senior Neurodiagnostic Technologist and/or on-coming staff when equipment is missing or broken.
  • Assists with patient requests for other hospital services.
  • Communicates clearly and professionally to all multidisciplinary team members, including nursing staff.
  • Works well independently with minimal supervision, but also has the ability to work well in small groups.
  • Participates in and supports quality improvement activities.
  • Demonstrates acceptable productivity and practices cost containment.
  • Proficient in the best electrode application method using paste, collodion, or electrode caps as appropriate.
  • Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.
  • May travel to other CLS Health clinics as needed.

Requirements:
  • High school or equivalent
  • Certified in EEG
  • CPR Certification required
