About This Position
Ultrasonographer I
SCOPE OF POSITION: Under the general direction and supervision of the Medical Provider perform urological Ultrasound exams.
RESPONSIBILITIES: - Registered in 0-1 certifications by the ARDMS (or equivalent/specialized certification).
- Properly identifies and prepares patient for the Ultrasound exam.
- Obtains optimal Ultrasound images.
- Utilizes proper equipment pertinent to exam and utilizes current EMR
- Assists physicians with procedures if requested.
- Maintains adequate records of all Ultrasound exams including appropriate information.
- Maintains and cleans Ultrasound equipment and examination rooms in compliance with universal precautions.
- Completes general, unit, department specifics, and competencies including age specific competencies.
- Maintains required inventory of supplies.
- Coordinates and prioritize exams per Provider direction.
- Responsible for patient's safety, well being, and privacy at all times.
- Maintains accreditation status with ACR standards.
- Instructs Ultrasound students in clinical procedures.
- Responsible for adhering to all radiation protection standards and for donning all radiation protection apparel inclusive of wearing and changing of current monitoring devices.
- Ability to disinfect all probes properly according to manufacturer requirements
- Performs similar and related duties as required.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathological processes pertinent to diagnostic Ultrasound.
- Knowledge of Ultrasound techniques, tests, and procedures.
- Operation knowledge of Ultrasound equipment.
- Ability to make technical decisions to obtain the most accurate information of diagnosis.
- Ability to interact and communicate with patients, staff, and hospital personnel.
- Knowledge of blood borne pathogen and universal precautions.
- Ability to lift and pull patients, push stretchers, and able to stand and walk.
- Graduate of accredited program of Diagnostic Sonography approved by the American College of Radiology.
- Certified through the American Society for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (RDMS) as RDMS (OB or AB), RT(S), RT (VS), RVT, or RVS). New Graduates must obtain RDMS certification within one year of hire or within 24 months of their graduation date, whichever is less.
- Must maintain all qualifications from the American College of Radiology accreditation requirements for Ultrasound and/or RT(S) continuing education requirements.
- Must have basic computer skills and ability to access internet and other programs applicable to Waterbury Hospital procedures.
- Perform automated functions that fall within job responsibility.
