About This Position

Job Description Summary

The Center for International Students & Scholars (CISS) at Bentley University, a private business-focused university located in Waltham, Massachusetts is hiring a paid graduate intern for 15 - 20 hours per week for the 2026-2027 academic year (August/September –May). CISS serves 1000 + international students and scholars and strives to keep the institution, students, scholars and their dependents in compliance with immigration regulations through advising and record keeping. Through this engagement, CISS facilitates campus internationalization and makes it possible for all Bentley students to gain both a global perspective and a broadened worldview.
Hours: 15-20 hours a week (Disbursed Monday - Friday based on student’s schedule)

Essential Duties

The Graduate Intern will report to Sam Bor, Senior International Student and Scholar Advisor, and will also work collaboratively with the CISS team and student staff.

The Graduate Intern will support the CISS in the following areas:

Social Media & Communications:

  • Strategize improved ways to conduct outreach to the international student population

  • Manage all aspects of social media for CISS (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.) and develop and coordinate a social media plan with the CISS student staff team

  • Create and distribute monthly newsletter for international students

Programming:

  • Assist with programming initiatives for CISS’ WorldView Program, Peer Mentor Program, International Education Week, employment information sessions, and travel signature events, international student orientation, and other CISS-sponsored programs

  • Opportunity to create new programs based on demonstrated need

Advising

  • Shadow and assist professional staff with international student and scholar advising on issues such as travel, course enrollment, employment, and adjustment to the United States

  • Depending on office needs, possibility to serve as Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) in the SEVIS system for F-1 and J-1 students

Office Administration/ Document Processing:

  • Manage inquiries to the CISS general email inbox and telephone

  • Intake and initial review of work authorization application materials (CPT/OPT); I-20 reprint requests

  • Update office documents, including forms, cover sheets, office manual, and information session presentation slides

  • Create and review orientation materials for incoming students

  • Assist with website development and updates

  • Assist with updating internal office manual

  • Additional responsibilities: Data management and assessment, and other areas depending on availability, experience, and interests.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability to work 15- 20 hours/week in person with possibility of remote work

  • Occasional ability to help with evening programming (Schedule and start date flexible.)

  • Ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing demands and priorities

  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively

  • Strong demonstrated interpersonal, intercultural, and customer service skills

  • Minimum commitment: 1 academic year (approximately August/September – May)

Preferred Skills

  • Knowledge of F-1 & J-1 non-immigrant visa regulations

  • Dialogue facilitation training/experience

  • Proficiency or fluency in a language other than English

  • Experience living outside of the U.S.

  • Experience working with international student population

  • Experience as an International Student. International Students are encouraged to apply and may apply for employment authorization with the approval of their institution.

Work Environment

Due to the nature of this role’s responsibilities and close work with student engagement and events, this position is intended to work in-person. The Graduate Intern will have a designated desk and workspace located in CISS’s open office, which allows for easy collaboration and communication. There may be the ability to complete some hours of work remotely as the position allows and with approval from the supervisor. Meetings for this role may continue to take place both in-person and virtually. A university laptop will be provided to allow for workplace flexibility.

Student Affairs Graduate Assistant Cohort Experience

There may be additional Graduate Intern within Bentley University’s Division of Student Affairs each year. This cohort of Graduate Intern may have shared housing on campus, may receive additional professional development opportunities as a group, and are encouraged to connect with one another through their time at Bentley. Specific professional development opportunities for this cohort may be requested by the Graduate Intern, but may include lunch-and-learns, informational interviews, and discussions on current topics in higher education.

Location

Bentley University is located about 10 miles from Boston in Waltham, MA. Waltham is on the Fitchburg Commuter Rail Line, and campus is accessible by local bus. The Graduate Intern would have access to the Bentley Shuttle, which runs regularly between campus, Waverley Square (Belmont MBTA Bus Station), and Harvard Square (MBTA red line connection).

Pay Transparency

In alignment with the Massachusetts Pay Transparency Act and our commitment to equity and transparency, we’re disclosing the salary for this role:

  • $20/hr, paid bi-weekly
