About This Position

The Health IT Desktop Technician is responsible for configuring and installing computer hardware and operating software within the Health Services Division (HSD), ensuring seamless integration with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems such as RPMS and NextGen. This role involves troubleshooting hardware, software, and LAN connectivity issues to support clinical and administrative operations, while maintaining compliance with health data security standards.
  1. Configure and install computer hardware, operating systems, and healthcare applications, including EHR systems (RPMS, NextGen).
  2. Troubleshoot computer hardware, LAN connectivity, and EHR-related technical issues to minimize downtime in clinical workflows.
  3. Ensure proper connectivity to the Local Area Network, external devices, and healthcare systems.
  4. Follow tribal-wide and healthcare IT procedures for system security, HIPAA compliance, connectivity, backup, recovery, hardware, and software.
  5. Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and updates for HSD IT systems.
  6. Use diagnostic and troubleshooting techniques to resolve hardware/software issues impacting patient care systems.
  7. Respond to service requests related to healthcare operations, determining appropriate troubleshooting or escalation.
  8. Maintain and support printers, scanners, and peripheral devices used for health documentation.
  9. Participate in Help Desk rotation, providing technical support for clinical staff and administrative users.
  10. Perform other duties of a similar nature or level as requested by supervisor or director.

Knowledge of:
  • Diagnosis, troubleshooting, and repair of computers and health IT systems.
  • Local Area Network environments and secure connectivity for healthcare applications.
  • Current computing hardware and Windows desktop operating systems.
  • Installation and maintenance of EHR systems (RPMS, NextGen) and related healthcare software.
  • HIPAA regulations and health data security best practices.
  • Yaqui culture, customs, resources, and traditions and/or a willingness to learn.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills for health IT problem-solving.
  • Ability to evaluate new health IT hardware and software technologies.
  • Troubleshoot technical problems impacting clinical workflows.
  • Communicate technical information clearly to non-technical healthcare staff.
  • Follow written and verbal instructions and meet deadlines in a fast-paced healthcare setting.
  • Operate office and health IT equipment, including computers and EHR peripherals.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for interaction with clinical staff, management, and the public.

Associate of Science Degree in Computer Information Systems or Health Information Technology, or certificate from an accredited technical computer school with one (1) year experience in IT support, in a healthcare setting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience with EHR systems such as RPMS and NextGen is required.
  • A+ Certification preferred.
Special Requirements:
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Driver’s License.
  • Must have a current Level 1 Arizona Clearance Card or be able to obtain one within ninety (90) days of hire. Failure to maintain a current Level 1 Clearance Card will result in termination from this position.
  • Must be available for flexible scheduling, including evenings and weekends as required.
