About This Position
The Lead Dangerous Goods employee is responsible for overseeing the safe handling, storage, packaging, and transportation of hazardous materials in compliance with safety regulations and company policies. This role ensures that all dangerous goods are properly labeled, documented, and shipped according to regulatory requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned from time to time.
Comply with all Company procedures as outlined in manuals, bulletins, and memos.
- Advise on Dangerous Goods Training Programs for Amerijet’s Ground Operations, Flight Operations and Maintenance personnel in accordance with federal and international regulations.
- Performs Dangerous Goods Audits (documentation, emergency procedures, training, facilities, and compliance) for Amerijet, their ground handlers and vendors; recommends new/corrective measures to ensure full compliance with ICAO and DOT / FAA regulations.
- Review and approve/reject Dangerous Goods shipments by Amerijet standards.
- Be participant in maintaining Amerijet Dangerous Goods Emergency response and procedures for any in-flight or ground emergencies. (Hot Line Assignment )
- Advice on the content of computer based training programs and training videos for dangerous goods; advise on operations manuals and training manuals as referenced to dangerous goods and special loads.
- Performs Dangerous Goods training activities for Amerijet clients, ground handlers and vendors.
- Interact with Domestic and International organizations in reference to the Dangerous Goods Transport and Regulations.
- Interacts with Federal (FAA, DOT) and International agencies (CAA, IATA, and ICAO). Attend training seminars and regulatory conferences to ensure up-to-date compliance with aviation regulations and the U.S. FAR’s.
- Other activities and special projects as directed.
Minimum Qualifications, Skills, Education and Experience:
- Strong analytical, organizational and planning skills
- Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
- ·Must be able to read and understand manuals, regulations, charts and tables, and effectively communicate verbally in a time-sensitive manner in a noisy operations environment
- If required to drive company vehicles or motorized conveyances as a regular part of job, must possess valid driver’s license.
- Ability to follow instructions/procedures
- Ability to work overtime when needed
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position will have direct reports and is considered a leader within the company. Will be required to train and support a team to achieve departmental goals.
Language Skills:
The employee must possess strong interpersonal and communications skills, be able to effectively present information, respond to questions, and proficiently write reports and business correspondence.
Physical Activities and Requirements of the Position:
Sedentary work; sitting most of the time. While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in an office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Exerts up to 30 lbs. of force occasionally for office supplies and equipment.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms; move about the facility. Some light physical effort required.
