About This Position
The Surgery Supply Coordinator works closely with the surgical services leadership, sterile processing, and operating room (OR) staff to ensure the OR is supplied and prepared for safe and efficient surgical procedures. This role focuses on coordinating specialty supplies and equipment for each case, collaborating directly with the clinical teams to anticipate needs and ensure items are available, properly prepared, and accurately charged.
In partnership with the OR Supply Clerk, the coordinator communicates case-specific requirements, supports inventory planning, monitors supply utilization. This position emphasizes proactive coordination with clinical staff, cost awareness, and maintaining high standards of quality and patient safety while supporting overall surgical operations.
Job Requirements
Knowledge of/Skill/Ability to:
• Knowledge of OR supplies, and OR procedures.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for inventory and case coordination.
• Effective communication and collaboration with staff
• Ability to manage supply needs, monitor usage, and support cost-effective operations.
• Familiarity with hospital safety standards, and hospital policies.
License/Certification
N/A
Education and/or Experience
• Associate degree in healthcare, business, or a related field preferred.
• Experience in surgical services, materials management, or healthcare supply chain highly preferred.
• Knowledge of OR specialty supplies, and reprocessing standards strongly preferred.
• Experience with inventory management systems and electronic health record (EHR) systems preferred.
Physical Demands and Work Environment Conditions / ADA Compliance
May be exposed to fumes, chemicals, cold temperatures, noise, radiation, blood/body fluids, and infectious diseases. Requires compliance with surgical attire, including scrubs, hair covering, and shoe covers.
Position involves prolonged sitting and computer use, with occasional standing and walking. Requires frequent reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, and crouching, and the ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
