Housekeeping Supervisor at IHMS LLC. – New York, New York

POSITION OVERVIEW: We are seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Housekeeping Supervisor to join our team and help to support and oversee the housekeeping and laundry departments, ensuring smooth departmental operations. In this position you will help to train and retain team members, ensuring the highest levels of cleanliness, guest service and satisfaction.

JOB FUNCTION, TASKS, and RESPONSIBILITIES: 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Ensure service and production is provided in the proper manner, consistent with standards of a Forbes Five Star Luxury Hotel
• Complete, in a timely fashion, all schedules and monitor staffing to ensure maximum service, quality, efficiency, and productivity; monitor fluctuations in occupancy to make schedule adjustments.
• Monitor daily assignments to ensure that proper quotas and standards are maintained
• Establish safe working conditions and practices
• Participate actively (as required) in physical inventories of all uniforms, linens (including food and beverage) and supplies
• Work directly with outside contracted companies when on hotel premises
• Organize and participate in meetings with all staff on a regular basis
• Ensure all employees are exposed to constant refinement, training and development on an ongoing basis
• Assist with the update of all training material as needed
• Ensure all daily and weekly payroll reports and sign-in sheets are completed and submitted in a timely manner
• Oversee the start of housekeeping shifts in the morning and evening
• Participate in the monitoring of cost management as it pertains to inventories, issue of supplies, labor and energy
• Always maintain good working relationships with all Department and Division Heads in the Hotel
• Make scheduled checks of the hotel, noting deficiencies and ensuring proper follow-up procedures
• Participate in a consistent rooms inspection/Quality Control program
• Supervise the Laundry/Valet Department and monitor standards pertaining to guest service, operational efficiency, safety, productivity, quality and personnel
• Familiar with the operation of the Uniform Room and monitor the maintenance of standards in the area
• Review all work orders submitted and ensure all orders are handled in a timely and professional manner
• Assist in periodically reviewing, re-evaluating, and revising departmental procedures and job descriptions, supplies, equipment and labor standards, as needed
• Ensure all security policies and procedures are observed in all departments and areas of responsibility (e.g., keys, linen room, linen closets, storage closets.)
• Perform other tasks or projects as assigned by hotel management.

QUALIFICATIONS and REQUIREMENTS: 

• Previous luxury hotel housekeeping experience (preferred)
• College degree (preferred)
• Union experience (preferred)
• Effective communication skills; reading writing and oral proficiency in the English language is necessary.
• Multilingual a plus
• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and knowledge of a property management system
• A positive attitude and ability to work well with a diverse staff; must be attentive, friendly, helpful, and courteous to all guests, management, and fellow employees
• Strong attention to detail
• Flexible schedule including weekends, PM shifts and holidays.
• Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced environment, luxury environment

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• The heaviest item is a mattress (one corner lifted at a time is about 25-30 lbs.)

• Caddy and vacuum: 25 lbs.

Repetitions:

• Forward bend, squatting, kneeling, half-kneeling for all cleaning task
• Hands/knees for cleaning bathroom and shower floor
• Repetitive shoulder motions through full range for:
  • Cleaning shower
  • Changing bedding
  • Reaching for pillows in closet
• Repetitive gripping to squeeze cleaner containers
• Lifting primarily floor to tabletop (for trash, laundry, clean linens, bucket of supplies)
• Carrying trash and laundry to chute
• Lifting mattresses, lighter weight furniture
• Push/pull: vacuum
• Stair climbing
