POSITION PURPOSE
To coordinate the total nursing care for patients of the Emergency Department in a safe, cost-effective manner consistent with established standards and current hospital policies and procedures. Act as a liaison to facilitate patient care between patients, family members, providers, and other relevant persons.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Staff Nurse
- Currently licensed as a professional Registered Nurse in the State of Florida or Multi-State Compact Licensed.
- Demonstrated proficiency in all areas of patient care pertaining to patient population.
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required. Newly graduated registered nurses or new nurse to emergency department setting must obtain ACLS and PALS certification within the first 90 days of employment or assignment to the unit. Certifications are only accepted from The American Heart Association.
- Graduate from an accredited school of nursing with a Registered Nurse degree.
- High School Graduate or GED equivalent from a Florida Department of Education accredited program.
- Strong customer service skills and ability to multi-task while working in a high-volume work environment..
- Able to work effectively with team members, supervisors, providers, patients and their families to accomplish team goals.
- Ability to plan, organize and perform job associated tasks to completion. Willing to adjust personal schedule to accommodate patient needs.
- Demonstrated knowledge of computers and proficiency in the use of an electronic health record system, CPSl/Evident preferred. Knowledge of web-based programs and Microsoft Office suite of products including Outlook, Word and Excel preferred.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Formulates appropriate nursing diagnosis and establishes patient outcomes in a plan of care.
- Accepts assignments based on competency, and participates in committee/project work as requested by Director.
- Assesses patient teaching needs and participates in teaching opportunities with patients and other significant individuals as indicated.
- Demonstrates competency in clinical skills related to the Emergency Department.
- Follow ENA Guidelines for clinical, competency, staffing, and care of the patient.
- As a core member of the "Stroke Alert Team", maintains up to date stroke education at a minimum of four (4) hours annually.
- Performs B.E.F.A.S.T. (Balance, Eyes, Face, Arms, Speech, Time) Assessments on patients presenting with Stroke-like symptoms.
- Demonstrates proficiency in the STEMI Alert Process, Chest Pain Protocols, NSTEMI Protocols.
- Ability to set up and perform telemedicine consults for Neurology & Cardiology
- Acts as a liaison between patients, providers, nursing and other departments to facilitate a collaborative practice in the provision of quality patient care.
- Uses the principles of AIDET to exceed customer expectation at every encounter with all customers.
