About This Position

LACERA is recruiting highly motivated and career-minded individuals to fill the position of Finance Analyst I, LACERA Fellowship.

The Fellowship Program: Appointees will participate in LACERA’s two-year Finance Analyst I Fellowship Program. The program provides comprehensive and immersive training for aspiring investment professionals and consists of rigorous training modules, hands-on projects, and direct mentoring from experienced professionals in the industry. This program is designed to equip participants with essential skills and knowledge in institutional investing, preparing them for entry-level investment positions. The Fellowship Program is intended to last no more than two years and does not guarantee employment with LACERA beyond this period.

ABOUT THE POSITION:
The Finance Analyst I Fellow participates in a structured on-the-job training program designed to provide the participant with the necessary skills and knowledge in the field of Investments for preparation into an entry-level Investment position.

Positions allocable to this class typically report to an assigned supervisor and/or mentor and receive on-the-job training inclusive of both theoretical understanding and practical application. The Finance Analyst I Fellow participates in a 12 to 24-month training program. Incumbents are expected to develop and demonstrate progressively increasing skills and independence of action as they gain experience and proficiency in the field of Investments.

VACANCY INFORMATION:
There are two (2) vacancies located in the Investments Office. The Finance Analyst I Fellowship is a county temporary position of limited duration, lasting up to two years. The resulting eligible register for this examination may be used to fill current and future vacancies, as they occur.

Work Schedule: This full-time temporary position is required to work a 5/40 schedule (e.g. an eight (8) hour day, Monday through Friday) for at least the first twelve (12) months of employment. The Investment Office currently works a hybrid work model with all staff members in the office two (2) days per week (generally Monday and Wednesday) and the first Tuesday and third Thursday of every month, and as organizational needs warrant. LACERA may revise the hybrid work model at its discretion, as circumstances warrant.

Finance Analyst I, LACERA


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Finance, Economics, Business Management or a related field.
-OR-

Two (2) years' analytical experience in a financial environment such as banking, private investment fund management, public pension fund management, or real estate management at the corporate level.


OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to perform the essential functions of this classification, with or without reasonable accommodation.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will meet the position's requirements and possess the following:

  • Knowledge and understanding of financial, economic, and investment markets.
  • Proficiency utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.

Knowledge of: Financial, economic, and/or investment markets; principles and practical application of Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; proper use of English grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary.

Ability to: Communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing; collaborate effectively within a team environment; comprehend and carry out both oral and written instructions; apply analytical and problem-solving skills; demonstrate high attention to detail; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and external partners.


EXAMINATION CONTENT
The examination process will consist of an evaluation of Training and Experience based on application information and supplemental questionnaire, weighted at 100%.


APPLICANTS MUST MEET THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND MUST ACHIEVE A PASSING SCORE OF 70 OR HIGHER ON THE WEIGHTED PORTION OF THE EXAMINATION IN ORDER TO BE PLACED ON THE ELIGIBLE REGISTER.

Eligible Information: The names of candidates receiving a passing grade will be placed on the eligible register in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months following the date of promulgation.

Passing this examination and being placed on the eligible register does not guarantee an offer of employment. Candidates who are determined eligible for hire under the Los Angeles County's Civil Services Rules may be invited to the selection process which may comprise of a selection interview and/or job-related assessments.
