Job Title: Admissions and Disposition Clerk

Provides Direct Support To: WRNMMC, Bethesda, MD

Duty Hours:
Rotating weekly schedule; 40 hours per week (6:00 AM – 6:00 PM)

Qualifications

Education:
High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED) equivalent

Experience:
Minimum of 12 months experience working in an office setting

Skills
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English to effectively communicate with patients and healthcare providers
  • Typing speed of at least 50 words per minute
  • Knowledge of general medical ethics and telephone etiquette
  • Strong communication, concentration, and customer service skills
Job Duties and Responsibilities

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Answer and screen telephone calls; greet walk-in patients; respond to routine medical, administrative, and personnel inquiries; escort patients as needed
  • Provide patients with advance directives, third-party liability documentation, and other required forms for medical records
  • Create pre-admission charts and complete entries in electronic systems (e.g., CHCS, Essentris)
  • Notify the Commander or designee of active-duty inpatient admissions, discharges, or transfers; track and report required statistics
  • Coordinate with civilian medical facilities to identify active-duty admissions in the local area
  • Work with the Casualty Affairs Officer to support seriously ill or injured active-duty personnel
  • Verify patient eligibility using the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS)
  • Track daily patient movement, bed status, and ward transfers
  • Assist with coordinating patient transfers within the facility or to outside facilities
  • Process applications for the Secretarial Designee Program and ensure eligibility per regulations and TRICARE guidelines
  • Coordinate approval requests through Hospital Services leadership and the MTF Commander
  • Track and report casualty notifications in accordance with government policies
  • Assist providers with preparation of death certificates in accordance with state guidelines
  • Coordinate autopsy decisions and related documentation
  • Coordinate with the MTF laboratory regarding disposition of remains
  • Prepare and coordinate documentation for transportation of deceased individuals
  • Receive notifications regarding service members affected by illness, injury, or death (including cases involving misconduct or absence from duty)

Rotating weekly schedule, 40 hours per week. Shifts are 12 hours from 6:00PM to 6:00 AM
