POSITION TITLE: Assistant Director
DEPARTMENT: Youth Services
LOCATION: Nest+m School; 111 Columbia St., New York, NY 10002
REPORTS TO: Program Director
SALARY RANGE: $22 Per Hour, 25 hours per week
DATE: September 2025 - June 2026
SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday, 2pm - 6pm Schedule may vary due to program needs.
JOB SUMMARY: As part of our Youth Services Department’s vision: all Youth Services Staff will assist in promoting growth, leadership and positive self-image in all young people at all our Grand Street Settlement sites. Grand Street Settlement's Nest+m Assistant Director is responsible for assisting in the overall development, implementation, and oversight of the SONYC program. In addition, there is an expectation of high quality, innovative programming for our middle school participants.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum Associates degree or equivalent of 3+ years in Youth Services
- Familiarity with respective communities, key stakeholders and resources
- Experience in designing, planning and implementing structured programs
- 1+ years of budget and contract experience
- High level of proficiency in administrative work
- Capacity to thrive under pressure while working on multiple task and projects
- Knowledge of the public education system and positive youth development best practices
- Strong public speaking, writing and organizational skills
- A team player with demonstrated commitment to working with urban youth and young adults from an asset-based perspective
- Ability to set up and maintain work environment that challenges gender stereotypes and is LGBTQIA+ friendly
- A background in partnering with the Department of Education and local community-based organizations to support programs
- Have skills in experiential learning and group facilitation with youth
- Must be an outstanding strategic thinker
- Must be flexible, cooperative and willing to work in a team environment
- Experienced in DYCD programming regulations and DYCD online
- Must obtain NYC Dept. of Health and fingerprints clearance and State Central Registry (SCR) clearance ($25 fee)
- Bi- lingual (Spanish preferred), but not required
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program and Community Development:
- Provide direct leadership and strategic direction to two program staff
- Support with the orientation and evaluation of programs staff assigned to program
- Responsible for participant recruitment and retention strategies by utilizing the DYCD online report
- Serves as the primary liaison for school administration, parents and other community entities
- Work with the Program Director to ensure staff improve job performance through ongoing mentoring, coaching, and monthly staff development
- Facilitate bi-monthly team meetings and ensure that all staff meetings are properly executed
- Work with the Program Director to set, communicate and enforce clear standards for quality youth development programming
- Actively engage community residents, local business, community leaders
- Participate in ongoing efforts to advocate for programming to advocate for program needs
- Assess program on quarterly to ensure that community needs are met
Administrative:
- Ensure attendance tracking and reporting meets contractual requirements regarding enrollment and attendance
- Respond to all electronic and phone communications within 2 business days
- Ensure all DOH School-Aged Child Care and DOH regulations are met
- Coordinate and execute all major events and activities along with other GSS Program Directors
- Responsible for school foods program and all of its components
- Communicate with DYCD key stakeholders
- Prepare a monthly calendar of events, program updates and needs
PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
- Successfully clear; NYS DOI Fingerprint Screening, NYS Central Registry Clearance, Sex Offender Registry Clearance, three (3) reference checks, physical examination with updated TB test, Tdap, MMR, varicella (fees may apply).
- Meet all employee health requirements in Article 47 (DOHMH) and Head Start performance standards.
- Mandated Reporter training certificate (every 2 years) and comply with agency’s policy and procedure regarding identification and reporting of child abuse and neglect.
- Obtain First Aid/CPR and Preventive infectious diseases certificate within the first year of employment.
- Meets all health requirements in Article 47 (DOHMH) and Head Start Performance standards.
- If hired, Grand Street requires all potential employees to provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination and booster.
