The Water Resources Engineer, Hydrogeologist, or Environmental Specialist position reports to the Small Group Leader (SGL) and is responsible for supporting EKI’s "One Water" and groundwater planning practices for clients in the Western United States, with a goal of expanding services in Wisconsin and the broader Great Lakes region. The ideal candidate will be passionate about sustainable water resources management and integrated planning. They will excel at analyzing complex water supply and demand data, developing actionable strategies, and helping clients secure reliable, resilient water supplies. EKI works on a broad range of projects including water rights protection, water supply and demand forecasting, sustainable groundwater management, and aquifer characterization. Our expertise also spans the development of water budgets and accounting frameworks, groundwater flow and contaminant transport modeling, water transfers, production well design, water reuse planning (both indirect and direct potable), and litigation and regulatory support. Candidates will have the opportunity to contribute to projects that shape long-term water security for communities, utilities, and ecosystems.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Your responsibilities may include, but will not be limited to the following:

Collect, analyze, and synthesize water resources data, including hydrologic indicators, water diversions and extractions, supply portfolios, demand and usage patterns, water use efficiency metrics, and outputs from numerical modelsPrepare reports and studies, including water management plans, water supply strategies and assessments, integrated plans, water diversion and use reports, and water conservation programsPrepare well-written documents and effective presentations that communicate complex technical problems in an effective and efficient manner to a broad audience.Support project managers and senior staff with the preparation of project schedules and proposals, budgets, deliverables, and progress reportsRepresent EKI at conferences, workshops, and industry events to build and maintain client relationships, explore emerging market opportunities, and demonstrate subject-matter expertiseOther duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Environment and Resources, Civil & Environmental Engineering, Hydrology, Geology & Geophysics, Geoscience, or related field; Master’s degree preferredKnowledge, Skills & Abilities

Professional, internship, or research experience supporting environmental resource planning, water resources engineering and analysis, or hydrogeologic modeling is preferredStrong technical knowledge or interest in numerical modeling, water resources planning, data management and visualization, and technical writingKnowledge of Wisconsin water resources regulations and applicability is desired, such as water use reporting, groundwater quality standards and well guidelines, Great Lakes Compact issues, and state Clean Water Act implementationPrior work or familiarity with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR), the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection (DATCP), Regional Planning Commissions (RPCs), County Land & Water Resources Departments, Wisconsin-based environmental protection organizations, or with public water suppliers is a plusProficiency with Python (or R), spreadsheet tools, and ArcGIS are a plus (experience with ArcGIS preferred)OSHA HAZWOPER training preferred but not required

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with high-volume workload and frequent short deadlinesMust have the ability to obtain medical clearance to work on hazardous waste site(s)Must be able to lift up to 50 lbsMust be able to work 10-hour daysMust be able to work remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periodsMust be able to communicate with others to exchange informationMust be able to assess the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to travel occasionally, possibly overnight for customer meetings and site visits up to 25% of the time
