Brian Cox Mechanical, Inc. (BCM), an industry leading HVAC contractor headquartered in Poway California, has an opening for a Commercial HVAC Service Tech.

Position Summary

A HVAC Service Technician at Brian Cox Mechanical, a Company of Service Logic, is responsible for powering up and adjusting control settings to cycle through all designed sequences. Acquires, evaluates, and interprets readings to determine the adequacy and acceptability of system operation to meet customer specifications, while performing sufficient field diagnostic procedures to identify inadequate performance and provides corrective actions as necessary. This position combines hands-on field training with ongoing coaching to build technical skills, safety awareness, and customer service professionalism.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, service, repair, and maintain commercial and residential HVAC refrigeration, and mechanical systems.
  • Follows HVAC theory, system components, electrical basics, and airflow principles.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment.
  • Clean coils, replace filters, inspect electrical connections, and test system performance to ensure optimal operation.
  • Accurately identify equipment malfunctions and provide effective, timely solutions.
  • Communicate service findings, recommendations, and repair options clearly to customers and management.
  • Ensure all work is performed in compliance with applicable HVAC industry standards, safety regulations, building codes, and company standards.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and immediately report any safety concerns or hazards.
  • Complete service ticket orders, warranty paperwork, inspection reports, and other required documentation accurately and on time.
  • Manage time effectively to ensure prompt response and completion of assigned service calls.
  • Participate in the on-call rotation and respond to after-hours, weekend, and emergency service requests as required.
  • Interact professionally with customers, contractors, and other trade personnel, escalating concerns to supervisors and dispatch when appropriate.
  • Educate customers on the benefits of preventive maintenance programs and system care.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and positive attitude while representing the company.
  • Safely operate company vehicles and maintain a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Keep company vehicles, tools, and work areas clean, organized, and properly stocked.
  • Safely travel to and from customer locations and job sites.
  • Install and secure equipment supports, hangers, brackets, and related components as required.
  • Apply knowledge of HVAC system operation, airflow principles, electrical systems, and mechanical components to diagnose and resolve issues.
  • Provide excellent customer service and maintain positive customer relationships.

Frequently stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and reach while performing services, maintenance, and repair work.

Heavy Lifting: Frequently lift and carry, push, and pull equipment, materials, and tools, weighing up to 50–75 lbs.

Ability to climb ladders, work from elevated surfaces, and access rooftops, mechanical rooms, crawls spaces, and confined areas.

Frequently use hands and fingers to operate tools, controls, testing devices, and computer equipment.

Regularly operate a company vehicle and safely drive to and from customer locations, including extended periods of sitting while traveling between job sites.

Ability to work safely in varied weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, wind, rain, and high humidity.

May be exposed to mechanical equipment, moving machinery, electrical systems, refrigerants, chemicals, dust, fumes, and noise levels requiring the use of personal protective equipment.

Must maintain the physical stamina and mobility necessary to perform job duties safely and effectively throughout the workday.


Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities)

  • Universal EPA certification (preferred)
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record
  • Good communication skills, and people skills
  • Ability to safely operate motor vehicle and travel to customer locations
  • Troubleshoot equipment and make repairs and replace decision
