About the KIPP Colorado Director of Multilingual Education Role: |
The Director of Multilingual Education will lead our instructional design and execution of transformative English Language Development across our schools. The Director of Multilingual Education will lead the partnership with Denver Public Schools to ensure that our programs are in compliance and delivering high-quality programming to our students. The Director of Multilingual Education will also support the effectiveness of our dual-language elementary programs to ensure our students are reaching bilingual proficiency. This full-time position is a part of our Home Office Team and is a key member of KIPP Colorado’s leadership team. This is a full-time position and will report directly to the Senior Director of Special Services.

Professional Responsibilities

● Assume personal responsibility for student achievement
● Read, internalize, and adhere to the KIPP Colorado Policies and Procedures manual and guidelines
● Provide an active presence, strategic supervision, and intentional monitoring to ensure student safety and engagement in rigorous learning (regardless of my role and its proximity to students)
● Take ownership for the development of your craft and engage actively in coaching sessions (meet 1-2 times every 1 or 2 weeks (depending on need and role) with a manager, receive coaching, implement all provided feedback, engage in active practice, etc.)
● Commit to being prepared. Such as: internalizing and preparing for lessons, preparing for O3s/coaching, preparing for meetings, coaching, PD, reading and internalizing written communication, etc.
● Meet professional obligations including and not limited to meeting deadlines and honoring schedules ● Consistently leverage existing professional tools, including but not limited to Google Suite (google documents, etc.) and Microsoft Suite (including but not limited to your KIPP Colorado email, Teams chat / meetings, Teams phone, and Microsoft Outlook calendar)

● Share candid, solutions-oriented feedback with peers and leadership on a regular basis, assuring that feedback is shared directly with the intended recipient. Ensure that feedback is focused on improving outcomes and experiences for students
● Assist with both student and staff recruitment and engagement- including events, home visits, calls home, and other determined and related requirements
● Know that your role, professional development, org wide meetings, etc. may require you to travel around Denver to other KIPP Campuses, our Home Office, or other KIPP or PD events
● Assist with other duties as assigned (such as but not limited to, lunch duty, arrival/dismissal duty, bathroom duty, hallway duty, school support duties, etc.)
Ensuring the KIPP Colorado Instructional Vision lives in Multilingual Education
● In partnership with the Senior Director of Special Services, ensure that the instructional vision for special services, including multilingual education, lives out in our English Language Development (ELD) and bilingual classrooms.
● Ensure that the vision for English Language Development and biliteracy meets all compliance requirements by identifying course offerings and supporting the selection and design of curriculum.
● Ensure that students in our dual-language programs (e.g. one-way dual language, TNLI) have the opportunity to show
● Work collaboratively with other members of the Home Office Academics team to ensure that ELD programming and supports live throughout our academic program.
Drive Compliance of a Best-in-Class Multilingual Education Program
● Ensure all aspects of our multilingual program meet and exceed compliance requirements for staff in students by working in close partnership with Denver Public Schools.
● In collaboration with the Data and Assessment Team, manage assessment tools, data systems, and progress monitoring for multilingual learners including ACCESS testing and WIDA screenings.
● In partnership with the Talent Team, ensure that all staff compliance for English Language Development and bilingual programming meet minimum requirements.
● In partnership with the Operations and Culture Team, ensure that school operations staff have the knowledge and skills to support families during the enrollment process around our multilingual programming.
● Ensure that KIPP Colorado is in compliance with all aspects of the consent decree to ensure that we are meeting the needs of our students, families, and community.
● Regularly communicate with Home Office leaders and Principals about the status of compliance and programming on their campuses by identifying gaps and solutions to close the gaps.
Be an English Language Development Content Expert
● Employ research-based instructional strategies and content approaches for English Language Development and multilingual learner support that are rigorous and aligned to our high-quality instructional materials.
● Support the development of students and school schedules that allow for students to have the appropriate access and support to developing their language skills through both English Language Development programming and bilingual programming.
● In collaboration with the Instructional Leadership Team, design and implement effective professional learning to ensure that staff have the development needed to deliver strong instruction.
Provide Strategic School Support to Reach Student Outcomes
● Reduce achievement gaps between disaggregated groups to ensure that multilingual students are achieving proficiency and growth on par with their peers.
● Use data from assessments (e.g. i-Ready, DIBELS, curriculum assessments, interim assessments) to monitor the progress of multilingual students during assessment windows and design strategies for continuous improvement.
● Provide consultation and guidance to MLE administrators on campus to strengthen programming and teacher development.
● Directly support schools in navigating challenging or unique situations and serve as a liaison with Denver Public Schools.
Be an Organizational Steward Internally and Externally
● Successfully balance decision-making that is in the best interest of the organization, schools, and students.
● Assure alignment between the priorities of both KIPP Colorado and the KIPP Foundation by building relationships and investment with all parties and supporting the efficacy staff in our schools.
● Cultivate and manage relationships with organization leaders and other critical stakeholders including the Executive Team, Principals, and other Home Office leaders.
● Meet with internal and external stakeholders and synthesize their concerns, challenges, and ideas into easily understandable and actionable recommendations.
● Working in close partnership with the Chief People and Learning Officer and the Managing Director of Manager Learning & Development ensure that Leaders in your leadership vertical are strong people managers with the skills, tools, and mindsets required to lead high-performing teams and strong adult cultures.
● In partnership with the Managing Director of Manager Learning & Development ensures that coaching and development is aligned to the organization’s Manager Vision of Excellence and Leadership Competency Framework.

About the skills and qualifications you will bring to this role:
● Bachelor's degree (required)
● Spanish bilingual (preferred)
● At least 5-7 years of relevant and aligned experience in multilingual education and/or bilingual education (required)
● At least 5 years of school based experience and/or a strong record of helping underserved students achieve academic success (required)
● Deep knowledge of language development content and instruction (required)
● Past experience (2 years) of leading adults in a school environment (required)
● A full understanding and Commitment to an Exceptional Student Experience (more about that HERE) (required)
● Outstanding organizational skills and high attention to detail; outstanding written and oral communication skills

Compensation and Benefits |

● Competitive Market Salary: Starting salary for this role begins at $91,800 and is commensurate with experience
