Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced Navy veteran with deep knowledge of the Ship’s Self Defense System (SSDS) to serve as a Senior C&L Systems Author. In this role, you will develop, review, and refine Combat System Capabilities & Limitations (C&L) documents supporting the U.S. Navy. This work is critical to ensure the fleet receives accurate, authoritative, and tactically relevant system documentation.
The ideal candidate brings at least 8 years of directly applicable Navy experience in ratings such as Fire Controlman (FC) or Operations Specialist (OS), with substantial expertise in Aegis operational employment, tactical documentation, and cross-system integration.
Requirements:Key Responsibilities:
C&L Project Authoring:
• Author Combat Systems Capabilities & Limitations projects for U.S. Navy in accordance with engineering and documentation requirements.
• Review technical and tactical source documents to determine accuracy, relevancy, and suitability for inclusion in C&L products.
Technical Process & Programmatic Support:
• Collaborate with engineering and program teams to define, plan, and execute timelines for C&L project development.
• Support the development and refinement of processes, policies, workflows, and schedules used to deliver C&L documentation to the fleet.
SSDS Expertise Application:
• Apply a moderate to high level of knowledge of the SSDS element during content development. Experience in CVN is preferred as well as amphibious. Personnel with prior experience in ratings such as FC (specifically SPY-6 radar and DBR) and OS are considered ideal candidates.
• Serve as a Subject-Matter Expert specifically for the Command & Decision (C&D) element, which requires a high degree of experience.
Documentation & Deliverables:
• Prepare, update, and review required technical deliverables, including C&L documents, revisions to government documents, ECP-related materials, and technical data package review reports per CDRL requirements (A007, A008, A00F, A00H, A00Z).
Required Qualifications:
• Minimum 8 years of applicable U.S. Navy experience.
• Former FC or OS rating (or equivalent experience) with demonstrable SSDS operational familiarity.
• In-depth understanding of SSDS architecture, tactical documentation, and shipboard operational employment.
• High proficiency and direct experience with the SSDS element strongly preferred.
• Strong ability to analyze, interpret, and synthesize technical and tactical documentation.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a structured engineering and documentation team.
Desired Attributes:
• Active Secret clearance
• Experience supporting technical documentation, system integration, or fleet training commands.
• Strong writing and editing skills, with attention to clarity, accuracy, and completeness.
• Familiarity with Navy technical processes, configuration management, and content validation workflows.
Security Clearance:
Applicants may be required to have an active security clearance or the ability to obtain and maintain a US government security clearance as specified in the minimum qualifications. Selected candidates will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements to obtain a DoD government-granted security clearance.
