Position Summary:
Harrisburg University is seeking a talented and detail-oriented Graphic Design Intern to assist with creating visual content that supports the University’s marketing and communication efforts. This on-campus position offers hands-on experience in design for print, digital media, brand development, external audience advertising, and visual storytelling. The Intern will collaborate with professional designers and communicators to produce materials that advance the University’s image and mission. These materials will be tailored for a variety of audiences and will support the University’s goals for advancement, event promotion, executive communication, recruitment efforts, and more.
Responsibilities:
- Design digital and print materials including flyers, social media graphics, event signage, and promotional materials.
- Ensure all creative work aligns with the University’s brand and identity guidelines.
- Collaborate with the MarComm Team on campaigns, social media content, and special projects.
- Edit and format photos and illustrations for use across platforms.
- Prepare design files for print production or digital publishing as needed.
- Maintain organized project files and assist in managing design assets.
Qualifications:
- Must be a current Harrisburg University student in good academic standing.
- Should have intermediate to advanced skills in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign), Canva, CapCut, Figma, and other design tools.
- Familiarity with designing across a wide range of media types, from web to print to environmental graphics, is encouraged.
- Must have exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Must have a strong sense of layout, typography, and color theory.
- Must also be willing to liaise with departments within HU to help prepare marketing materials for major events (e.g. conferences, summits, student activities).
- Creativity, attention to detail, and the ability to translate ideas into visually compelling designs.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Prior coursework or experience in graphic design, visual communication, or marketing preferred.
- Position includes opportunities to learn how to operate a Canon mirrorless camera and edit using Adobe Lightroom.
- Position includes regular mentoring from the Marcomm team on best practices with media equipment and design techniques.
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of this internship, the student will have developed:
- Professional-level experience in applied graphic design.
- A portfolio of creative work produced for a real-world client.
- An understanding of brand consistency and cross-platform visual communication.
Hours and Compensation:
- Paid position (Federal Work-Study eligible): $15/hour.
- Hours per week: 10 hours.
- Flexible scheduling to accommodate class commitments.
