Rigging and Tarps Specialist 001 at Avail Staffing Company – Norfolk, Virginia

Job Summary:

Avail Staffing is seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Rigger with experience hanging containment tarps and operating aerial lifts (JLG certified). The ideal candidate will assist with setting up containment systems, weatherproofing, or environmental protection on industrial or construction job sites. This position requires working at heights and following strict safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

• Safely rig, hoist, and install containment tarps on scaffolding, structures, or steel.
• Operate aerial lifts (boom lifts, scissor lifts) in compliance with JLG certification and site protocols.
• Use rigging tools such as come-alongs, pulleys, and harness systems to secure tarps and materials.
• Inspect rigging and lifting equipment before use and report any safety hazards.
• Coordinate with team members and follow directions from supervisors to complete tasks efficiently.
• Adhere to site safety rules, fall protection requirements, and OSHA regulations at all times.
• Assist with site prep and cleanup as needed, including tarp removal and material handling.

Qualifications:

• Proven experience in rigging and installing tarps on shipyard or industrial sites.
• Valid JLG aerial lift certification (required).
• Familiarity with fall protection systems and proper PPE usage.
• Ability to work at heights, in various weather conditions, and in physically demanding environments.
• Strong understanding of rigging safety and load-handling principles.
• Reliable, team-oriented, and able to follow instructions.

Preferred:

• Basic knowledge of scaffolding systems.
• OSHA 10 certification.
• Experience in industrial coatings, environmental containment, or similar trades.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Comfortable working on elevated platforms and in tight spaces.
• Standing, climbing, bending, and lifting throughout shift.
