Summary

Responsible for monitoring bus stop stations, to include exercising considerable discretion and independent judgment in reacting to the day to operations of the bus stop stations and other unforeseen events (i.e. ice on roads, and at the shelters, re-routing around accidents or obstacles). Provide on - street cleaning standards and to assist shelter cleaners with problems.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provides power steam cleaning of bus stop pads and locations using power steam cleaning equipment.
  • Steam cleans transit centers, including multimodal transit centers and multipurpose transit stop locations.
  • May use detergents and specialized solvents to clean bus stop and transit center concrete walkways, pads, and fixtures.
  • Clears debris and overgrown forestry at bus stops.
  • Conducts routine, periodic, or special inspections of bus stop locations in advance of maintenance and repair work.
  • Using skills from a variety of construction trades (painting, masonry, carpentry, plumbing, sheet metal work, for example), bus stop technician installs bus stop poles and signs at designated locations, either new installation or replacement.
  • Frames and pours concrete pads when necessary to the installation of bus stop fixtures.
  • Uses hand and power tools to repair, install and maintain bus stop signs, poles, concrete pads, fixtures.
  • Changes posters at bus stops.
  • Drives half and three-quarters ton trucks and pulls trailer containing power equipment.
  • Uses blue-prints, diagrams, drawings, and specifications in the installation of bus stop fixtures.
  • May test and troubleshoot equipment and coordinates with Maintenance Department in repair of power equipment, and vehicles.
  • Other duties as required

  • Combination of mostly outdoor work in a variety of weather conditions, as well as exposure to cleaning solvents and lubricants.
  • Frequent stooping, bending, and climbing.
  • Lifting of up to 40lbs is required. Must be able to use all power and hand tools required by work involved.
  • Must be able to operate power steam cleaning equipment.
  • Must be able to operate vehicles (trucks) used in this work, including the ability to drive a truck pulling an equipment trailer.
  • Must be able to read maps, understand and follow geographical directions locations designated for repair and cleaning.
  • Must be able to follow written and oral instructions, schedules, procedures and directions.
  • Must be able to read construction drawings to make bus stop installations.
  • Must be able to apply knowledge of construction practices to actual repair, installation and cleaning of bus stop locations.
  • Must be able to perform work using personal protective equipment as assigned to the position.
  • Must have safe driving record that meets GRTC standards.

Special Conditions

  • Steam cleaning worked requires night and weekends

Education and/or Experience

  • High school diploma/GED required.
  • Experience in cleaning required.
  • Valid Virginia Driver’s License required.
