About This Position
DEFINITION
Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services or designee, the District Athletics Coordinator plans, develops, promotes, implements, maintains, and evaluates the District’s athletics and sports related activities including oversight, management, and program support; establishes efficient, comprehensive, equitable, and strategic programs aligned with the District’s goals and objectives; ensures compliance with related guidelines and regulations; serves as a member of the District’s leadership team; and serves as a positive role model for student athletes and coaches by demonstrating and exemplifying good sportsmanship and fair play.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
The primary duties of the District Athletics Coordinator are to develop, promote, and provide oversight and management of the District’s athletics programs, which includes TK-6 Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELOP) and 7-8 After School Education and Safety (ASES) activities.
This position is also responsible for coordinating 9th-12th grade athletics to ensure consistent, equitable, and compliant programs district-wide. The District Athletics Coordinator will work closely and in collaboration with secondary school site administrators and site athletic directors to facilitate and lead cohesive planning in alignment with the District’s goals and objectives that meet regulatory and California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) compliance requirements. Site athletic directors are supervised by their school site administrators and are expected to collaborate and comply with directives and compliance requirements coordinated through the District Athletics Coordinator.
An employee in this class exercises considerable managerial, communication, and analytical skills and is tasked with building relationships and community partnerships to enhance the programs.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Supervision is provided by the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services or designee. Supervision is exercised over assigned technical and clerical staff, if applicable.

Education
A bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in a closely related field.
Experience
Strong background in K-12 athletics programs preferably with three or more years of increasingly responsible experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Managerial experience in a Local Education Agency (LEA) is preferred.
LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATE
A valid California driver’s license and vehicle insurability is required. The availability of private transportation or the ability to provide transportation between job sites may be required.
The examination process for this recruitment may be comprised of one or any combination of the following: screening of the applicant's training, background, and experience; scored evaluation of responses on a supplemental application; written examination(s); qualifications appraisal oral examination; performance examination; or technical oral examination, scored on a job-related basis. - Tracks student progress with PBIS objectives by correlating trends between student program participation, academic outcomes, and behavior; promotes and enhances the District’s athletics programs and sports related activities by communicating the positive outcomes for participating students. E
- Directs the athletics operations including the implementation and maintenance of new programs and/or processes for the purpose of providing services within established timeframes and in compliance with related requirements. E
- Manages assigned program and/or departmental responsibilities for the purpose of achieving organizational objectives and ensures compliance with ELOP, ASES, CIF, and other regulatory obligations and District requirements. E
- Identifies issues and analyzes data from a variety of sources (e.g. staff, public agencies, etc.) to ensure compliance with organizational policies and procedures and/or program monitoring components. E
- Responds to issues involving staff, conflicts in policies and regulations, community concerns, parental requests that may result in some negative impact and/or liability if not appropriately addressed to ensure identification of relevant issues and recommendations and implementation of a plan of action for efficient resolution. E
- Performs research for the development and implementation of new programs and services, policies and procedures, eligibility requirements, best practices, staffing recommendations; responding to requests; and ensuring compliance with organizational, regulatory, and program requirements. E
- Prepares a wide variety of often complex materials (e.g. plans, master schedules, material request, etc.) including, but not limited to, documentation of activities and issues, presentations, promotional materials, and compliance reporting. E
- Develops participant program orientation and provides staff and/or service provider training on safety protocols and policies and procedures. E
- Develops, facilitates and/or presents workshops designed to increase stakeholder involvement including identification of issues and formulation of recommendations and strategies to support staff, students, and families to increase program participation. E
- Maintains current knowledge and ensures compliance with constitutional league provisions, compliance requirements, rules and regulations, and District policies and procedures. E
- Ensures ongoing timely advance submission of program schedules and special arrangement requests including, but not limited to, all off-season, intersession, and intramural sporting programs requests as required. E
- Develops forms, surveys, brochures, and record-keeping procedures; ensures comprehensive recordkeeping and budgeting of uniforms, equipment, and other program-related expenses. E
- Coordinates transportation requests and facilities needs; assists in the care for and upkeep of the facilities and equipment used in the program activities. E

- Researches, identifies, and explores additional partnerships, grant, and/or funding sources for athletics programs and opportunities to further support student athletes. E
- Identifies vendors for program materials including jerseys, equipment, protective gear, etc. E
- Serves as the District representative for athletics programs in both internal and external meetings and events including workshops, seminars, conferences, community events; conveys and gathers information required to carry out their administrative responsibilities. E
- Organizes and facilitates regular meetings with the athletics consultants for student services to enhance partnerships and collaboration. E
- Coordinates the care for, and upkeep of the facilities and equipment used by the athletics program including maintaining uniform and equipment purchase records and logs through development and implementation of district-wide processes, procedures, and accountability systems. E
- Collaborates with appropriate safety and risk management personnel to ensure liability protocols are adhered to and security measures are in place at all athletics-related practices and sporting events. E
- Supervises, directs, evaluates, and holds accountable the performance and professionalism of assigned staff; interviews and selects employees and recommends transfers, reassignment, and disciplinary actions. E
- Demonstrates leadership and coordinates with other managers to ensure effective communication between all divisions and uniform application of athletics policies district-wide. E
- Performs related duties as assigned.
