About This Position

The ideal Peer Coordinator is knowledgeable about the range of services in the community and develops and maintains relationships with partners to deliver a comprehensive array of services to clients. Coordinators will identify resources in the community and work with Veteran Service Organizations (VSO's) to enhance clients' access to and use of such resources. The Peer Coordinator will make group presentations and may deliver workshops in the areas of general Veteran benefits, housing programs, educational programs, employment programs and accessing VA Health Care benefits.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of Peer Specialists that will operate within the 5th Supervisorial District of Los Angeles County.
  • Serve as the squad leader for their team and assist the VPAN Manager with the coordination of outreach and connection to services for Veterans, National Guard, Military Reservists, and their Families to increase their access to resources and benefits.
  • Ensure Veterans are welcomed into a positive environment, and in partnership with the Veteran or family members, will identify their needs or areas for assistance.
  • Oversee the administration and interpretation of assessment tools and assists Veterans in identifying psychosocial goals and developing an Individualized Service Plan to attain those goals.
  • Work with JVS SoCal's Quality Assurance team with direct responsibility for data collection and report preparation; maintains compliance with agency and funder protocols and procedures and maintains confidentiality in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards
  • Must have a passion to work and connect in Veteran related areas.
  • Requires a high level of customer service and counseling expertise with the ability to multi-task.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience and experience communicating effectively with stakeholders in written and oral form, including electronic media, using positive interpersonal skills.
  • Prior experience with Veterans and high-risk populations is desired.
  • Skill in facilitating groups, writing case notes, and working with a diverse population. Fluency in Microsoft Office software, databases and other relevant software is required.
  • Requires a minimum of 2 years' experience in Veteran Services or career counseling
  • Background or experience in Case Management, Career Counseling or Mental Health.
  • Prior Military Experience is highly desirable. Peer Support Certification or aligned experience a plus.

Education

  • BA or BS degree in Career Counseling, Communications, or other related field preferred. May be substituted for experience

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

Office/ community spaces or classroom environment in fast paced setting. Must be able to lift 151bs with a fair amount of sitting, answering telephones, and movement within the Career Center. Requires traveling to employer and client work sites. Due to current COVID restrictions will work from a blended home, office, and classroom environment. May be required to work some evenings and/or weekends.
